Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey falls 2-1 to Bentley; will be top seed for Atlantic Hockey Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior forward Calvon Boots notched a goal in the Tigers' 2-1 setback to visiting Bentley, Saturday, in Atlantic Hockey play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was scoreless until Bentley got on the board with 5:51 left in the second period. Ethan Harrison took a shot from the right faceoff circle that was redirected by a defender behind the Tiger net. Stephen Castagna collected the puck and fed Cole Kodsi in front for a finish over Tiger sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone's blocker.
  • Bentley took a 2-0 lead with 10:50 left in the game. Lucas Vanroboys collected a loose puck off the endline and skated to the left faceoff circle for a shot on goal that deflected past Scarfone off the skate of Castagna in front.
  • RIT got one back with Scarfone pulled under four minutes remaining in regulation. Junior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata cycled a puck across the top of the zone to senior defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro for a one-timer from the right point that deflected through traffic in front. Boots found the loose puck and tucked it inside the right post with 3:03 on the clock.
GAME NOTES
  • Hansen-Bukata notched his team-leading 27th assist of the season and is second on the squad with 29 points.
  • Cassaro logged his 15th assist and is third on the squad with 25 points.
  • Boots scored his fifth goal this winter.
  • Scarfone stopped 35 shots for his 11th 30-plus save effort of the season.
PLAYOFF UPDATE
Despite the loss, RIT will be the top seed for next month's Atlantic Hockey Tournament after second-place Sacred Heart fell at Canisius, 6-4, in the night's other action. The Pioneers (42 points) would not be able to surpass the Tigers (51 points) even if they sweep their three remaining games. (Atlantic Hockey standings)

RIT closes the regular season with a pair of home games opposite Air Force next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) and 7:05 p.m. and 5:05 p.m., respectively.
