Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

No. 18 Men's Hockey comes up short at Niagara, 4-1

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The No. 18 RIT men's hockey team fell at Niagara, 4-1, in Atlantic Hockey play, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Niagara opened the scoring with a power play goal at 14:33 on a shot from the point by Shane Ott after the Tigers went a man down 11 seconds earlier for tripping.
  • RIT answered less than three minutes later after senior forward Elijah Gonsalves threw a puck in front of the left post from below the goal line. Niagara goaltender Chad Veltri attempted to stick the puck away, but it deflected back into the net off a Purple Eagle defenseman with 12:09 on the clock.
  • Niagara retook a 2-1 lead 30 seconds into the second period. Casey Carreau threw a puck toward the goal from the right corner to Jason Pineo, who jammed a puck inside the left post past Tiger sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone.
  • The Purple Eagles scored twice during a 1:03 stretch midway through the third period to build a three-goal lead with 8:16 remaining in regulation. Both goals were scored 4-on-4.
GAME NOTES

  • Scarfone was credited with 20 saves at RIT finished with a 29-23 shot advantage.
  • RIT was whistled for 12 penalties and 40 PIM, but was able to kill six of seven Purple Eagle power plays.
  • RIT lost for the third-straight time and is 1-4 in its last five games. Coupled with a 4-3 setback to the Purple Eagles on Thursday, the Tigers also lost their first Atlantic Hockey series of the season.
