Women's Hockey beats Mercyhurst 3-2 in OT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior forward Emma Roland scored two goals including the game winner in overtime to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 win over Mercyhurst, Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mercyhurst's Sydney Pedersen scored a power play goal at 7:44 of the first period to give the Lakers the lead
  • Roland scored at 11:39 of the period to tie the game at 1-1. She had a back-handed shot saved by Mercyhurst goalie, Ena Nystrom. The rebound came back to Roland who fired it in for her fourth goal of the season
  • Henley Maloney gave Mercyhurst a 2-1 lead on her goal at 14:37 of the opening frame
  • Sophomore forward Lexi Sung scored off a rebound at 2:39 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Kyla Bear and Jessie Burks had the assists on the play
  • Roland scored 52 seconds into overtime. Senior defensewoman Mia Tsilemos fed Roland with a pass and she beat Nystrom for her fifth goal of the season
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT outshot Mercyhurst, 33-30
  • Sophomore goalie Sophia Bellina made 28 saves
  • The Tigers blocked 20 shots
  • It is the first win over Mercyhurst since January of 2021
