POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The RIT women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20) decision at Vassar, Friday, in Liberty League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied, 5-5, in the first set, the Tigers rode a 7-1 run to a 12-6 edge and later led, 22-14, en route to the opening win.
- RIT opened a 6-1 lead in the second and later led, 15-10. The Tigers clung to an 18-16 lead before a 6-1 Vassar run put the visitors in a 22-19 hole. RIT pulled back within one, 23-22, but the Brewers scored the final two points to even the match.
- The teams traded runs in the third, before Vassar broke a 13-13 tie with a 3-0 spurt. The Brewers later led, 20-18, before the Tigers took a 21-20 lead with three-straight points. Vassar answered with four unanswered points for a 2-1 lead.
- Vassar opened a 10-3 lead in the fourth and later scored four-straight points for a 18-9 lead. Later trailing, 20-12, RIT used a 6-1 to pull within three, 21-18, but the teams traded points until Vassar scored back-to-back tallies to close the match.
MATCH NOTES
- Junior middle Catherine Vento and first-year outside hitter Mia Gerber each had nine kills
- Senior libero Hailey Blixt had a match-high 16 digs.
- Senior setter Sydney Neff added 37 assists and seven digs.
