MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The RIT women's volleyball team fell in five sets, 3-2 (25-23, 25-14, 16-25, 15-25, 16-14), Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT made up a 14-11 deficit in the first set with a 9-3 run for a 20-17 lead, but the Mustangs responded with a 5-1 run for a 22-21 edge. The Tigers retook a 23-22 lead, but Morrisville scored the final three points to take the opening set.
- RIT opened a 9-7 second-set lead, but Morrisville came back with a 9-1 run to build a 16-10 edge that later ballooned to 10, 21-11, en route to a 2-0 lead.
- The Tigers jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the third and later rode a decisive 12-5 run to set point, 24-11, it would eventually secure.
- A close fourth set saw RIT break a 14-14 tie with an 11-1 run, including three kills by first-year Mia Gerber, to send the match to a deciding fifth set.
- The Tigers fell behind, 8-4, but bounced back with a 6-1 surge for a 10-9 lead. Morrisville responded with a 5-2 run to force match point, 14-12, but RIT fought off two attempts to knot the score, 14-14. However, Morrisville scored the final two points to close the match.
MATCH NOTES
- First-year Macie Jolliffe totaled a team-high 11 kills along with seven digs.
- Senior Sydney Neff compiled 35 assists and nine digs and seven kills.
- Senior Grace Phelan added eight kills, four blocks (two solo) and three service aces.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Tigers host the RIT Invitational this weekend, squaring off with Liberty League-rival Ithaca on Friday (Oct. 13) at 4:00 p.m., before taking on Denison (12:00 p.m.) and Stevens (4:00 p.m.) on Saturday (Oct. 14).
