WALTHAM, Mass. – RIT sophomore goaltender
Tommy Scarfone totaled 29 saves to preserve his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win at Bentley, Friday, in Atlantic Hockey action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scoreless into the third period, RIT got on the board with 15:50 left in regulation after first-year forward Tyler Mahan tipped home a loose puck which had trickled to the front of the Bentley crease during a scuffle in front of the right post.
- The Tigers took a 2-0 lead less than two minutes later after junior forward Cody Laskosky redirected a shot from the left point by first-year forward Xavier Lapointe with 14:06 on the clock.
- RIT's third goal came after sophomore forward Grady Hobbs dumped a puck from the neutral zone that was misplayed outside the left post into the Falcon net by goaltender Nicholas Grabko with 7:31 remaining in regulation.
GAME NOTES
- Scarfone logged his third career shutout and first since making 39 saves in a 1-0 win over visiting Sacred Heart (Mar. 11) in the Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals last season.
- Mahan scored his ninth goal of the season and for the fourth-consecutive game.
- Laskosky netted his eighth goal of the season.
- Hobbs found the net for the sixth time this season and for the first time since scoring twice in the 4-3 victory at AIC (Nov. 6).
- RIT improved to 9-2-0 this season when scoring first and 9-1-0 when allowing fewer than three goals.
- The Tigers killed off four penalties, but were also held scoreless on four power play opportunities.
