ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT women's hockey team takes the ice for the first time in 2023 with a pair of non-conference games at St. Thomas, Friday and Saturday, January 6-7.

Sophomore defensewoman Bronwyn Khangsar scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore defensewoman Kyla Bear in the Tigers 7-1 loss at Mercyhurst, Dec. 3. First-year goalie Sophia Bellina took the loss, while sophomore goalie Sarah Coe made 23 stops in relief.
 
Graduate student forward Amy Dobson scored in the Tigers 5-1 loss, Friday. Coe made 33 stops for RIT.
 
ABOUT RIT
RIT enters the weekend fourth in the CHA averaging 1.58 goals per game, while allowing 3.32 goals per contest. The Tigers are 19th nationally and second in the league averaging 7:06 penalty minutes per game, and are fourth averaging 13.05 blocked shots. RIT is third, converting 11.9 percent (7-of-59) power play chances.
 
Sophomore forward Kylie Aquaro leads the team with eight points on a goal and seven assists. Dobson, junior forward Lindsay Maloney and sophomore forward Athena Vasdani are tied for second on the team with seven points apiece. Maloney is third in the CHA and 23rd in Division I with 184 face-off wins, while Dobson is tied for seventh in the league averaging 3.0 shots per game.
 
Sophomore defensewoman Kyla Bear is fifth in the league with 34 blocked shots, and junior defensewoman Bailey Kehl and sophomore forward Megan McCormick are tied for ninth with 28 blocks apiece. First-year forward Lexi Sung is ninth in the league winning 51.6 percent of her face-offs.
 
The Tigers enter the weekend tied for 13th in Division I and second in the CHA with 595 team saves. Coe is fourth in the CHA with a 3.12 goals against average, averaging 24.33 saves per game, and is fourth in the league with a .903 save percentage.

ABOUT ST. THOMAS
St. Thomas swept a pair of games against Bemidji State, winning 3-1 on Dec. 16 and 5-2 the following day. Junior defensewoman Isabel Lippai, sophomore forward Abby Promersberger and first-year defensewoman Haley Maxwell each scored, while senior goalie Alexa Dobchuk made 24 saves in Friday's 3-1 win.
 
First-year forward Kate Haug tallied a goal and two assists and sophomore forward Lauren Stenslie chipped in a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-2 victory. First-year goalie Maggie Malecha made 28 saves to earn the win in goal.
 
St. Thomas enters the weekend seventh in the WCHA averaging 1.60 goals per game, while allowing 3.45 goals per contest. The Tommies are fifth in the WCHA killing off 36-of-44 penalties (81.8%) and  eighth in the league converting 6-of-72 power play chances (8.3%).
 
Senior forward Maija Almich, graduate student forward Gabby Billing, sophomore defensewoman Maddy Clough and graduate student forward Anna Solheim lead St. Thomas in scoring with seven points apiece. Almich leads the team with seven goals, while Solheim leads the Tommies with six assists.
 
Sophomore goalie Saskia Maurer has started 11 games in net for St. Thomas. She enters the weekend with three wins and is tied for seventh in the WCHA with a 2.87 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
