No. 18/19 Men's Hockey wins 4-3 at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – RIT sophomore forward Carter Wilkie scored two goals to lead the No. 18/19 Tigers to a 4-3 win over Holy Cross, Friday.
 
Trailing, 2-1, after the first period, senior forward Calvon Boots tied the game with 3:06 left in the second, before Wilkie scored shorthanded at the 10:15 mark and again just over two minutes later to put the game out of reach. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jack Robilotti scored on a wrist-shot 2:45 into the first period to give Holy Cross the lead.
  • Jacques scored his first of the season at 3:18 of the first to tie the score at 1-1. He scored with a shot from the slot off an assist from Miller.
  • Liam McLinskey scored at 16:10 of the opening period to give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.
  • Scarfone made a nice save on Liam McLinskey who broke in on net in the second.
  • Boots scored on the Tigers ensuing rush up the ice to tie the score at 2-2. Miller fed a driving Boots and he fired a wrist-shot into the corner at 16:54 of the second.
  • Wilkie scored short-handed at 10:15 of the third to give the Tigers the lead. He poked in a loose puck from in front of the Crusaders net.
  • Wilkie tallied his team-best 12th goal of the season and second of the game 2:18 after his first. He deflected a pass at center-ice and broke in, beating Holy Cross goalie Jason Grande with a wrist-shot to give RIT a 4-2 lead.
  • Eric Cicero scored for Holy Cross at 13:41 to cut the Tigers lead to 4-3.
  • Scarfone made 13 saves in the third, including one from in front in the closing seconds, to secure the win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone totaled 31 stops for his ninth 30-plus save effort of the season as Holy Cross out-shot RIT, 33-15. 
  • Wilkie's second goal was his 30th point of the season. He also finished with 30 points last year, becoming only the 11th player during the Division 1-era to score 30 points more than once. He is also the first to score 30 points in back-to-back seasons since Josh Mitchell scored 36 (6G/30A) in 2015-16 and 52 (16G/36A) in 2014-15. 
  • Sophomore forward Evan Miller recorded a career-high two assists.
  • First-year forward Philippe Jacques scored his first collegiate goal.
  • The Tigers went 0-for-2 on the power play, while stopping all five of the Crusaders power-play tries.
  • RIT blocked 16 shots, including a career-high seven by junior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata.
