No. 18/19 Men's Hockey loses 4-3 in OT at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, MASS. – The No. 18/19 RIT men's hockey team lost 4-3 in overtime at Holy Cross, Saturday.

Junior defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis scored at 17:18 of the third. Senior forward Caleb Moretz and sophomore forward Carter Wilkie each scored a goal. Sophomore goalie Tommy Scarfone made 23 saves.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Moretz scored his fifth goal of the season at 3:16 of the first period to give the Tigers the lead. He fired a wrist-shot into the corner off a cross-ice pass from junior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata.
  • Senior defenseman Ryan Nicholson fired a shot on net on a partial break midway through the period turned aside by Holy Cross goalie Jason Grande.
  • Nick Hale tied the game at 1-1 on his goal at 13:39 off an assist from Joe Solimine.
  • Hansen-Bukata had a chance late in the period saved by Grande.
  • Tyler Ghiradosi scored at 19:49 of the second on a back-handed shot from the slot.
  • Wilkie tied the game at 2-2 on his team-best 13th goal of the season at 1:26 of the third. Senior forward Kobe Walker sent a long pass up to Wilkie who broke in and beat Grande with a wrist-shot.
  • Devin Phillips scored a power play goal at 7:49 of the third to give the Crusaders a 3-2 lead. He tapped in a rebound off a shot from Jack Ricketts.
  • Mikrogiannakis tied the score on his wrist-shot from the high slot off a pass from first-year forward Tyler Mahan.
  • Ricketts broke in on sophomore goalie Tommy Scarfone in overtime, beating him with a wrist-shot at 2:48.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Holy Cross outshot RIT, 27-18.
  • The Tigers went 0-for-3 on the power play and allowed one power play goal on four Crusader chances.
  • RIT was 6-0-1 in its seven previous games.
