ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior forwards
Lindsay Maloney and
Emma Roland each scored twice in the first period to lead the Tigers to a 5-3 College Hockey America victory over visiting Syracuse, Tuesday, at the Gene Polisseni Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maloney and Roland scored a pair of goals in a 44-second span to take and early 2-0 lead. Sophomore forward Athena Vasdani stole a puck off a Syracuse player's stick and dropped a pass down the right half boards to sophomore defender Jessie Burks. Maloney tipped Burks' shot from the right point out of the air into the back of the net with 16:47 on the clock.
- Sophomore forward Kylie Aquaro then flipped a puck off the end line back to Roland in the left faceoff circle for a far-post wrist shot with 16:03 remaining.
- The Tigers took a 3-0 lead with a power play tally at 8:04. Graduate student forward Amy Dobson took a return feed from Vasdani behind the left post of the Syracuse net and slid a puck to an open Maloney in front for a short finish.
- RIT made it a 4-0 game with another power play goal after Roland tipped a shot from the point by first-year forward Lexi Sung under the bar with 1:18 left in the period.
- Syracuse's Sarah Thompson pulled the Orange back within two with a pair of second-period goals. She started by cleaning up a loose puck on the Tiger crease with 17:50 on the clock before collecting a deflected pass off a Tiger player and scoring from close range at the end of a rush with 6:49 remaining.
- The Orange made it a one-goal game 1:30 into the third period. Madison Primeau grabbed a deflected puck off a Tiger defender in the right faceoff circle and scored, far post.
- RIT held Syracuse scoreless the rest of the way, while Dobson created a turnover and beat the Orange back for an empty net tally with 50.7 on the clock to finish the night.
