Wrestling hosts New York State Intercollegiate Open

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT Wrestling team hosted the New York State Intercollegiate Open on Saturday.

Senior Colby Giroux led the way for RIT, winning the 184 lb. Black division with a 6-3 a decision in the first-place match against Division I Army West Point's Cole Karpinski.

Junior Matthew Grant placed second in the 149 lb. White division, falling to Ryan Alvarado of Army West Point in the finals for the weight.

First-year Isaiah Shafer came in third in the 133 lb. White division, winning two straight including a decision over SUNY Oneonta's Peter Sacco after falling in the division's semifinals.

First-year Tyler Balent placed fourth in the 174 lb. White division, while graduate student Christopher Horton and junior Mike Glynn III finished fifth in the 141 lb. Black and 149 lb. Black divisions, respectively.

The Tigers will wrestle again on Thursday, Jan. 26, when they host Oswego at Clark Gym. The Senior Night faceoff is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
