Women's Hockey loses on the road at No. 14 Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT – RIT junior forward Chloe McNeil scored a career-high two goals in the Tigers 5-2 loss at No. 14 Vermont, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vermont's Hailey Burns scored on a one-timer off a face-off from Tynka Pátková at 8:13 of the first to give the Catamounts the lead.
  • Sophomore goalie Sarah Coe made eight stops in the opening frame, including one on Pátková from in close late in the period to keep it a one-goal game.
  • Junior forward Lindsay Maloney had a chance from in front with 12 seconds remaining saved by Vermont goalie Jessie McPherson.
  • Theresa Schafzahl gave the Catamounts a 2-0 lead on her goal at 5:47 of the second period.
  • Two power play goals helped the Catamounts build a 4-0 lead midway through the stanza. Natalie Mlynkova scored a 5-on-3 goal at 9:58, while Evelyne Blais-Savoie tallied a 5-on-4 goal 1:23 later.
  • McNeil scored a power play goal at 19:52 of the period to cut the Vermont lead to 4-1. Maloney won the offensive-zone face-off over to graduate student forward Amy Dobson. She fired the puck towards the Catamounts goal and McNeil redirected her shot past McPherson.
  • Blais-Savoie scored her second goal of the game at 14:09 of the third period to give Vermont a 5-1 lead.
  • McNeil scored her second of the game at 15:21 of the third. Senior forward Jayme Nolan centered a pass from the corner. McNeil crashed the net and out-fought a Catamounts defender to poke in a shot behind McPherson.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Vermont outshot RIT, 30-11
  • Sophomore goaltender Sarah Coe made 23 saves. First-year goalie Sophia Bellina made two stops in her first action of the season.
  • The Tigers went 1-for-4 on the power play.
