Women's Hockey falls in season-opener at UConn

STORRS, CT – RIT sophomore goalie Sarah Coe made 32 saves in the Tigers' 3-0 loss in the season-opener at UConn, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UConn's Camryn Wong gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead on her goal off an assist from Megan Woodworth at 11:41 of the first. Wong scored on a wrap-around shot off a shot from Woodworth.
  • Kate Thurman scored 1:04 later to increase the Huskies lead to 2-0.
  • RIT was awarded a penalty shot at 14:45 of the second when sophomore forward Athena Vasdani was hauled down by a Huskies defender while shooting. Junior forward Emma Roland had her shot poked away by UConn netminder Tia Chan.
  • Carlie Magier gave UConn a 3-0 lead on her goal at 17:28 of the second off an assist from Riley Grimley.
  • Roland and graduate student forward Amy Dobson each had shots saved in a Tigers flurry early in the third period.
GAME NOTES
  • UConn outshot RIT, 35-30.
  • RIT finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
  • Dobson led RIT with eight shots, while Roland finished with seven shots.
