ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore outside hitter
Samantha Cox totaled a team-high 12 kills in a 3-1 (25-9, 21-25, 25-9, 25-15) setback to visiting Brockport, Wednesday night, at Clark Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brockport scored the first seven points of the match on its way to an 11-2 lead to open the first set. RIT put together a 5-3 run, including three Cox kills, to pull within seven, 14-7, but the Golden Eagles scored 11 of the final 13 points to take the first.
- Brockport once again opened an early lead in the second, 7-2, but the Tigers responded with a 7-1 run, including a pair of kills from graduate student middle Calista Gasper, to take a 9-8 lead. RIT opened a 15-11 lead and later led, 19-15, before Brockport pulled back within one, 20-19. The Tigers scored five of the final seven points of the set to pull the match even, 1-1.
- Brockport opened an 8-1 lead in the third before turning an 11-6 lead into a 21-7 edge with a 10-1 run to put the set out of reach.
- RIT built an early 6-5 lead in the fourth, before the Golden Eagles responded with an 8-2 run for a 13-7 lead. Brockport extended to a 19-11 lead before scoring six of the final 10 points to clinch the victory.
MATCH NOTES
- Brockport hit .355 for the match while holding RIT to a .095 attack percentage.
- Sophomore right side Liv Benard added seven kills, three digs and three assisted blocks.
- Junior setter Sydney Neff was credited with 29 assists.
