Men's Lacrosse set to host NCAA Quarterfinals and Semifinal

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT is set to host quarterfinal and semifinal round games of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament this Saturday and Sunday. 
 
RIT will take on Bowdoin on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. before Salisbury and Tufts square off at 3:00 p.m. The two winners will meet on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. with a berth in next week's national championship game on the line.
 
Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $5.00 for adults and $3 for students/children. All RIT students will also be admitted free to the game with proper ID.

RIT TIGERS (19-1) ROSTER | RESULTS | STATISTICS
RIT advanced to the quarterfinal with a 22-3 win over MIT in last Sunday's third-round game. The Tigers defense held the 19th ranked offense in Division III to three goals and the nation's top goal scorer, Ryan Gebhardt, scoreless for only the second time in his career. Senior Spencer Bell led the Tigers with four goals and five points, while junior Luke Pilcher and senior Marley Angus each scored three goals. Senior goalie Drew Hutchison made six saves in 30 minutes of action, while graduate student Jimmy Spillane won 10-of-15 face-offs and grabbed five ground ball.
 
The defending Division III National Champions are making their 12th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 23rd overall. The Tigers have reached the quarterfinals 17 times, played in 11 national semifinal games, and advanced to the national championship game in 2021, 2017 and 2013.
 
RIT enters Saturday's game ninth in the nation averaging 17.65 goals per game and 14th converting 44.4 percent (25-of-55) of its man-up chances. The Tigers have outscored their opponents, 354-167, this season, including a combined 44-9 versus Albion (22-6) and MIT (22-9) in last weekend's second and third round games. 
 
RIT features nine players with 20 or more points and 11 players with at least 10 goals. Pilcher leads RIT with 75 points on 55 goals and 20 assists. Angus (37g, 25a) and senior attack Quinn Commandant (38g, 24a) are tied for second with 62 points apiece.
 
RIT allows 8.35 goals per game and averages 10.66 caused turnovers per contest. The Tigers have won 54.0 percent (318-of-589) of their face-offs and average 40.75 ground balls per contest. RIT is tied for 17th in Division III holding its opponents to 11 man-up goals in 57 chances (80.7 percent).
 
Hutchison has started every game in net this season and enters the weekend with a 7.96 goals against average and a .587 save percentage, including a career-high 18 saves in the 16-15 win at current No. 4 St. John Fisher (Mar. 23). Hutchison is undefeated in his last 10 games with a 6.54 goals against average and a .618 save percentage.

Senior long-stick midfielder Taylor Jensen leads the team with 35 caused turnovers, averaging 1.75 per game. The 2022 Liberty League Co-Defensive Player of the Year is second on the team with 68 ground balls and has 11 points on five goals and six assists. Graduate student Jimmy Spillane has won 214-of-394 (54.3%) of his face-offs this season and leads the team with 107 ground balls.

Saturday's game will be the first ever meeting between RIT and Bowdoin. The Tigers have split two all-time meetings with Salisbury, earning a 15-14 double-overtime victory in last year's national championship game. to avenge a 15-7 setback in the 2017 national championship game. RIT has also split four all-time games with Tufts (all at home), including an 18-16 victory over the visiting Jumbos in last year's semifinals to punch its ticket to the national title game. RIT defeated visiting Tufts, 14-5, in the 2013 quarterfinals before falling in back-to-back semifinal matchups in 2014 (L, 21-11) and 2015 (L, 19-12). 

BOWDOIN BEARS (18-2) ROSTER | RESULTS | STATISTICS
Bowdoin advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals with a 17-12 win over St. Lawrence in last Sunday's third-round game. First-year Patrick Fitzgerald led the Polar Bears with three goals and five points, while sophomores Will Byrne and Oliver Bernstein and senior Zach Chandler each scored three goals. Freshman goalie Robert Hobbs made 15 saves to earn the win.
 
Bowdoin finished runner-up in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) before receiving an at-large bid to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, The Polar Bears enter the quarterfinal 11th in Division III with 17.35 goals per game, while outscoring their opponents, 347-243. Bowdoin has also converted 17-of-47 (36.2 percent) man-up chances.
 
Bowdoin features seven players with 20 or more points and 10 players with at least 20 goals. Senior Donal Mullane is 11th in Division III with 105 points and third averaging 6.56 points per game. He is also 14th in Division averaging 3.69 goals per game and 16th with 2.88 assists per contest. Byrne is second on the team in scoring with 95 points (65G, 30A) and Fitzgerald is third with 65 points (49G, 16A).
 
Bowdoin allows 12.15 goals per game, while causing 7.85 turnovers per contest. The Polar Bears are winning 61.9 percent of their face-offs, average 36.45 ground balls per game and have stopped their opponents man-up 58-of-85 (68.2 percent) times.
 
Hobbs is 18-1 on the season with a 12.22 goals against average and a .544 save percentage. Sophomore defenseman Noah Robb leads Bowdoin with 16 caused turnovers, just ahead of senior AJ Bravo with 15. Sophomore Ethan Barnard leads the Polar Bears with 174 ground balls and has won 325-of-523 (62.1 percent) of his face-offs.

Bowdoin's only losses this season are to Tufts, including a 20-11 road setback in the NESCAC Championship game (May 8), after also falling 23-15, to the host Jumbos (Apr. 27) during the regular season.  
 
SALISBURY SEAGULLS (20-1) ROSTER | RESULTS | STATISTICS
Salisbury is making its 39th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including its 31st in a row. The Seagulls have won 12 Division III National titles, including including their most recent crown in 2017 (a 15-7 win over RIT).
 
The Seagulls advanced to the quarterfinals with 13-8 win over Cabrini in last Sunday's third round. Graduate student Cross Ferrara led Salisbury with six goals and eight points, while sophomore goalie Z.J. Shahin made 13 saves.
 
Salisbury enters the weekend ninth in Division III averaging 17.48 goals per game, including 26-of-61 (42.6 percent) man-up attempts. 
 
The Seagulls feature eight players with 20 or more points and nine players with at least 10 goals. Ferrara has scored a team-high 114 points (87G, 27A) and ranks 25th nationally with 5.43 points per game and tied for fifth with 4.14 goals per game. Senior Logan Posner is second on the team with 87 points (50G, 37A) and senior Jarrett Bromwell is third with 85 points (56G, 29A).
 
Salisbury allows 8.25 goals per game while causing 10.76 turnovers per contest. The Seagulls have won 354-of-615 (57.6 percent) of their face-offs and average 38.58 ground balls per game.
 
Sophomore goalie Z.J. Shahin has started every game this season, compiling a 7.56 goals against average and a .545 save percentage. Senior long-stick midfielder John DeFazio leads Salisbury with 35 caused turnovers, while senior Thomas Ballard is second with 28. Sophomore Ham Partland has won 204-of-331 (61.6 percent) of his draws and leads the team with 128 ground balls.

Salisbury earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament with a 15-10 victory over Christopher Newport in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championship game (May 7). The Sea Gulls' only loss of the season was a 17-7 setback at Christopher Newport (Apr. 16) during the regular season.

Salisbury and Tufts have met four times in the NCAA Tournament - all in the national championship game. Tufts defeated Salisbury, 9-6, to win the 2010 title, before falling in a rematch the following year, 19-7. Tufts earned a 12-9 win in 2014 before Salisbury won, 14-13, in 2016. 

TUFTS JUMBOS (18-2) ROSTER | RESULTS | STATISTICS
Tufts is making its 14th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament winning the national title in 2015, 2014 and 2010.
 
The NESCAC Champion Jumbos advanced to the quarterfinal with 22-8 win over St. John Fisher in last Sunday's third-round game. Senior Mac Bredahl led Tufts with four goals and eight assists and senior Camden Kelleher finished with six goals. Sophomore goalie Conner Garzone made 12 saves to earn the win.
 
Tufts enters the weekend as the top scoring team in Division III, averaging 20.70 goals per game, while outscoring their opponents 414-238. Tufts is also fifth in the nation converting 37-of-74 (50.0 percent) of its man-up attempts. 
 
The Jumbos feature six players with at least 20 points and nine players with 10 or more goals. Bredahl leads the nation with 136 points and 6.80 points per game, and is second with 69 assist. Junior midfielder Jack Boyden is fourth in Division III with 120 points, tied for ninth averaging 6.00 points per game and eighth with 3.80 goals per contest. Kelleher is third on the team in scoring with 85 points (59G, 26A).
 
Tufts allows 11.90 goals per game while causing 10.35 turnovers per contest. The Jumbos have won 55.2 percent (426-of-509) of their face-offs and average 42.85 ground balls per game.
 
Garzone has started all 20 of Tufts' games this spring, compiling a 11.98 goals against average and a .527 save percentage. Junior defenseman Kyle Adelmann leads Tufts with 45 caused turnovers, while freshman Michael Ayers is second with 24 caused turnovers. Freshman Parker Merril has won 220-of-354 (62.1 percent) of his face-offs and leads the team with 131 ground balls.

RIT earned the automatic bid to the tournament with a 13-5 win over St. Lawrence in last Saturday's Liberty League Championship game to win its 10th straight league title. Junior Luke Pilcher led the Tigers with four goals and five points, while senior Ryan Barnable finished with two goals. Senior goalie Drew Hutchison made 13 saves in net and senior long-stick midfielder Taylor Jensen was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after causing three turnovers and grabbing four ground balls in the title game.
 
The defending Division III national champions are making their 12th-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and 23rd overall. RIT has reached the quarterfinals 16 times, played in 11 national semifinal games, and advanced to the national championship game in 2021, 2017 and 2013.
 
RIT enters Saturday's game 13th in the nation with 17.17 goals per game and 21st converting 44.2 percent (23-of-52) of its man-up chances. RIT has outscored its opponents 309-158 this season, including a season-high total in the 25-9 victory over Nazareth (Mar. 2). 
 
RIT features eight players with 20 or more points and nine players with at least 10 goals. Pilcher leads RIT with 68 points on 49 goals and 19 assists. Senior midfielder Marley Angus is second with 56 points on 33 goals and 23 assists, while senior Quinn Commandant is third with 55 points on 34 goals and 21 assists.
 
RIT allows 8.78 goals per game and averages 10.67 caused turnovers per contest. The Tigers have won 52.4 percent of their face-offs (277-of-529) and average 39.7 ground balls per contest. RIT is 16th in Division III holding its opponents to 10 man-up goals in 54 chances (81.4 percent).
 
Hutchison has started every game in net this season and enters the weekend with an 8.15 goals against average and a .580 save percentage, including a career-high 18 saves in the 16-15 win at current No. 4 St. John Fisher (Mar. 23). 

Jensen leads the team with 32 caused turnovers, averaging 1.78 per game. The 2022 Liberty League Co-Defensive Player of the Year is second on the team with 62 ground balls and has 10 points on four goals and six assists. Graduate student Jimmy Spillane has won 199-of-374 (53.2%) of his face-offs this season and leads the team with 98 ground balls.

RIT has never faced Albion or MIT, while the Tigers are 3-2 all time versus Amherst, including a 21-16 victory on March 17, 2018 at Stevenson in the most recent meeting. 

ALBION BRITONS (15-4) ROSTER | RESULTS | STATISTICS
Albion advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with an 11-6 win over Dubuque in Wednesday's first round. Senior Jace Conley led the Britons with four goals and six points, while senior goalie Jack Gagonis made 11 saves.
 
Albion is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance, and enter the second round averaging 15.7 goals per game, outscoring its opponents 299-172. The Britons are 33-of-86 (38.4 percent) on man-up chances.
 
The Britons feature six players with 20 or more points and six players with 20 or more goals. Conley is first in Division III with 89 goals and second with 125 points. He is second in the country averaging 4.68 goals per game and fourth, averaging 6.58 points per contest. Sophomore Ethan Rottell is second on the team with 77 points (39g, 38a), while junior Sam Puzevic is third in scoring with 71 points (52g, 19a).
 
Albion allows 9.10 goals per game and is seventh in Division III causing 14.4 turnovers per contest. The Britons are winning 49.7 percent of their face-offs, average 32.2 ground balls per game and have stopped their opponents man-up 66-of-86 (76.7 percent) times.
 
Gogonis is 9-0 on the season with a 6.91 goals against average and a .640 save percentage. Senior defenseman Joey Tatar leads Albion with 66 caused turnovers and is sixth in Division III with 3.50 caused turnovers per game. Senior Gerald Haadsma leads the Britons with 168 ground balls and has won 218-of-405 (52.8 percent) face-offs.
 
AMHERST MAMMOTHS (10-6) ROSTER | RESULTS | STATISTICS
Amherst is making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament after securing an at-large berth.
 
The Mammoths enter the weekend averaging 14.06 goals per game and are 17-of-47 (36.2 percent) on man-up attempts. 
 
Amherst features seven players with 20 or more points, and five players with 20 or more goals. Junior Brock Gonzalez leads the Mammoths with 68 and is tied for sixth in Division III with 4.00 goals per game. Senior PJ Clementi is second with 59 points on 36 goals and 23 assists, while junior Tanyr Krummecnacher is third with 54 points (30g, 24a).
 
Amherst allows 12.31 goals per game, causes 8.81 turnovers per contest and has held opponents to 14 man-up goals in 53 chances (73.5 percent). The Mammoths have won 265-of-474 (55.9 percent) of their face-offs and average 31.68 ground balls per game.
 
Freshman goalie Mitch Likins is 7-4 this season with an 11.47 goals against average and a .558 save percentage. Freshman Lawson Laverty leads the Amherst with 23 caused turnovers, while sophomore Ryan Rahbany is second with 17. Freshman Nicholas Kopp has won 247-of-431 (57.3 percent) of his draws and leads the team with 120 ground balls.
 
MIT ENGINEERS (16-0) ROSTER | RESULTS | STATISTICS
MIT secured the automatic NCAA Tournament bid with a 23-11 win over Springfield to win its first NEWMAC Championship, Sunday. Graduate student Ryan Gebhardt was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after compiling 13 goals and three assists throughout the tournament, including nine goals and three assists in the championship.
 
The Engineers enter the weekend eighth in Division III averaging 17.81 goals per game and outscoring their opponents, 285-133. MIT enters the tournament 9-of-27 (33.3 percent) on man-up attempts. 
 
The Engineers feature four players with 20 or more points, and nine with 10 or more goals. Gebhardt leads the team with 112 points. He is tied for first in Division III averaging 7.00 points per game and leads the nation with 5.44 goals per contest. Senior Gavin Vandenberg is second in scoring with 70 points (42g, 28a), while sophomore Heath Nilsen is third with 69 points (46g, 23a).
 
MIT allows 8.31 goals per game, causing 9.5 turnovers per contest. The Engineers have won 67.4 percent of their face-offs (359-of-473) and average 41.75 ground balls per game.
 
Senior goalie Lukas Drexler-Bruce has seen the majority of the minutes in net for MIT. He is 16-0 on the season with an 8.38 goals against average and a .564 save percentage. Junior defenseman Chris Perrino leads MIT with 25 caused turnovers, while senior Ben Dwyer is second with 20 caused turnovers. Freshman Matthew Sardis has won 282-of-389 (72.5 percent) of his face-offs and leads the team with 195 ground balls.
