ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team set program game records in runs, hits and RBI with 27 in each category and tied the program game record of 45 total bases in defeating visiting St. Lawrence, 27-8, in Liberty League action Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT scored 10 runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a two-run triple by senior third baseman Patrick Blackall, a three-run triple by sophomore second baseman John Bagley and a two-run home run by Blackall. St. Lawrence responded with four runs in the bottom of the first, with Nicholas Butler knocking in two runs off a triple.
  • The Tigers scored five runs in the second with four runs coming from a pair of two-run singles from junior catcher Kyle Poorman and senior first baseman Ian Libby. In the bottom of the second, Butler got the Saints within eight at 15-7 after a three-run home run.
  • The Tigers added two runs in the third and two runs in the fourth to go ahead 19-7. Senior left fielder Chris Reilly hit a two-run home run in the fourth and a three-run home run in the fifth for a 23-7 lead.
  • St. Lawrence scored its final run in the sixth, before RIT added three runs in the eighth from singles by freshman designated hitter Adam Marsh, graduate student right fielder Nic Stagnitta and sophomore shortstop Randy Dodig.
  • The Tigers scored its last run in the ninth after a Libby sacrifice fly scored freshman centerfielder Sam Kulp.
GAME NOTES
  • RIT's 27 runs surpassed the previous record of 22 against SUNY Canton on Feb. 27, 2013. Blackall crossed the plate five times and tied the individual program record for runs in a game with Walt Roman from an April 4, 2014 game against Bard.
  • RIT's 27 hits broke the previous record of 24 set against Bard on April 5, 2014 and Geneseo on May, 5, 1959. Leading the Tigers with four hits each were Marsh and Dodig.
  • The Tigers' 27 RBI broke a 63-year record of 20 against Geneseo on May, 5, 1959. Leading RIT in RBI was Reilly with five, while four each came from Bagley, Blackall and Poorman.
  • RIT tied the record for total bases with its game against Bard on April 5, 2014. The Tigers accounted for 17 bases from singles, 10 bases from doubles, six bases from triples and 12 bases from home runs.
  • Seven Tigers finished with extra base hits with doubles from Blackall, freshman second baseman Christopher Colella, Libby, Poorman and senior centerfielder Will Porter. Triples from Blackall and Bagley, and home runs from Blackall and Reilly.
  • Blackall missed hitting for the cycle by a single, after hitting a double, triple and home run.
  • It was the first game of 20 or more runs for RIT since a 21-1 win over Bard on April, 5 2014.
  • Senior pitcher Matt Vitro earned his first win of the season after allowing three hits, one run, and one walk with five strikeouts in four innings of work.
  • Because the St. Lawrence series (April 9-10) was originally scheduled to be played at St. Lawrence, the Saints are designated the home team despite all three games being hosted by RIT.
