ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Nazareth, Tuesday, winning the opener in five innings, 9-1, before falling, 6-2, in game two.
GAME 1: RIT 9, NAZARETH 1 (5 INN.)
- RIT tied a season-high with 16 hits, including a 3-for-3 performance with two runs scored, a triple and two RBI by senior Hannah Trumble.
- Senior Jill Vorreiter went 2-for-3 with three RBI while junior Alexis Smith finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- First-year Crystal Madore only allowed three hits and one earned run to earn the complete-game win.
- Trumble knocked a two-out triple in the bottom of the first before coming home on an RBI single by Smith. Vorreiter followed with a run-scoring double to push the Tigers to a 2-0 lead after one inning.
- Nazareth got one back in the second on a homerun down off the left foul pole by Marissa Berghorn, but RIT answered in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by first-year Maddy Cook which brought home first-year Erin Ozminkowski.
- Vorreiter brought Smith and Trumble home with a single to make it a 5-1 game in the third before Trumble plated sophomore Elise Guth with a sacrifice fly for a 6-1 score in the fourth.
- RIT scored three times in the fifth for an eight-run lead, including the final run on Trumble's third RBI of the game.
GAME 2: NAZARETH 6, RIT 2
- Trumble finished 2-for-4 with a triple while Smith was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.
- Nazareth scored three runs in the first and two more in the second for a 5-0 lead which proved insurmountable.
- RIT got on the board in the third following a two-out triple by Trumble and a Smith RBI single.
- Tiger first-year Chloe McManus led off the fourth with a triple to center and came home on a RBI single by first-year Kristin Hino to make it a 5-2 deficit.
- Nazareth tacked on an insurance run in the fifth en route to the split despite 12 total RIT hits.
