ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Union, with a 4-2 loss in the first game, followed by a 4-3 walk-off win, in Liberty League play, Saturday.
In game one, Union took a 2-0 lead in the first and then added runs in the fourth and sixth innings to build a 4-0 lead. The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 4-2 final.
Game two's 4-3 win came in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off single for two runs. Union took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before RIT tied the game in the bottom of the same inning. Union added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 3-2 lead prior to the Tigers' last at-bat.
GAME 2 – RIT 4, Union 3
- RIT and Union traded runs in the second inning. Union took a 1-0 lead on a double steal before Tigers' sophomore third baseman Nate Kistler scored after sophomore catcher John Bagley reached first on a muffed throw.
- RIT took a 2-1 lead after Kistler's double scored freshman designated hitter Adam Marsh.
- Union added single runs in the fourth and fifth for a 3-2 lead after Thomas Parisi doubled to score one run and Jono Santos' sacrifice fly scored the other.
- Freshman second baseman Christopher Colella's two-run, walk-off single to right field scored senior left fielder Chris Reilly and Marsh in the bottom of the seventh.
GAME 1 – UNION 4, RIT 2
- Union took a 2-0 first inning lead. Santos singled to score Ryan Cowls and pushed Kobe Mentzer to third, who would score Union's second run.
- Union went ahead 4-0 after single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
- In the bottom of the sixth, RIT scored the game's final two runs. Senior first baseman Ian Libby got RIT on the board after a Reilly groundout brought him home, before sophomore shortstop Randy Dodig doubled to score Marsh.
GAME NOTES
- In the first game, graduate student starting pitcher Collin Reformat took the loss after allowing two hits, three runs, six walks with three strikeouts in four innings of work.
- Freshman pitcher Christian Marchbanks threw three innings in relief and allowed two hits, one run, four walks with six strikeouts.
- Junior pitcher Alex Slotter finished the game for RIT and allowed two hits with two strikeouts in the final two innings.
- Dodig had a team-best two hits in the first game.
- In the second game, junior pitcher Peter Bossinas recorded his third win of the season in relief after allowing no hits with one strikeout in one inning of work.
- Senior starting pitcher Jon Opalewski allowed eight hits, three runs, one walk with four strikeouts in six innings.
- Marsh and Reilly led RIT with two hits each, while Kistler finished with one run, one RBI and the team's only extra-base hit in the second game.
