Women’s Lacrosse beats Union 23-20

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT (5-8, 3-5 Liberty League) Senior Steph Darrell scored a career-high seven goals to lead the Tigers to a 23-20 win over Union (4-8, 3-4 Liberty League), Friday. Senior Colette Rigas scored her 100th career point, finishing with four goals.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Darrell scored two goals to lead RIT to a 5-4 lead after the first quarter
  • Rigas and seniors Aldyn Savage and McKenna Joint each scored in the quarter
  • Anna Smith scored twice for Union, while Drew Charlton and Greta Mauer also tallied for the Dutchwomen
  • Union outscored RIT 7-6 in the second quarter, taking an 11-10 lead on Greta Heiting's goal with 1:18 to play in the half
  • Rigas scored with 22 seconds remaining to tie the score at 11-11 at halftime
  • Darrell scored three times in the third quarter, giving RIT a 16-14 lead on her goal with four minutes to play in the quarter
  • Savage, Joint and senior Krystyna Sterio each scored for the Tigers in the third
  • Union's Dana Truini cut the RIT lead to 17-16 on her goal early in the fourth quarter
  • RIT scored three straight goals, taking a 20-16 lead on Rigas' goal with 8:07 to play in regulation
  • Rigas recorded her 100th career point on a goal with 5:28 remaining that gave RIT a 22-18 lead
  • Darrell gave RIT a 23-19 lead with 2:39 remaining
  • Union's Grace O'Hara scored with 1:15 to play to make it a 23-20 final
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT fired 40 shots, including 28 on target
  • The Tigers went 9-of-16 on clearing attempts and won 28-of-47 draw controls
  • Freshman goalie Linda Nutter made 11 saves in net to earn the win
  • Joint finished with five goals and seven points, while Savage and Rigas each scored four goals
  • Freshman Julia Carreras scored her first collegiate goal
  • Smith led Union with six goals
