Softball falls twice to Union, 4-2, 5-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team dropped a pair of Liberty League games to visiting Union, Saturday, falling, 4-2, in the opener before dropping a 5-1 decision in game-two.

GAME 1: UNION 4, RIT 2
  • Union opened with two runs in the first inning on a homerun by Karson Saunders.
  • RIT got one back in the second after loading the bases on a lead-off walk by senior Jill Vorreiter followed by muffed throws on back-to-back by plays by the Dutchwomen. First-year Maddy Cook then lined a ball which was dropped by the Union shortstop, allowing Vorreiter to come home from third.
  • Union scored one in the third on a solo shot by Saunders and took a 4-1 lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Nahnny Sobetzko.
  • RIT first-year Chloe McManus was hit by a pitch to start the Tiger fourth inning and eventually came around on a sacrifice bunt by Cook to pull within two runs.
  • Dutchwomen starter Jessie Rooney held the Tigers without a hit the rest of the way, only allowing one hit while striking out seven for the complete game victory.
  • RIT first-year Lexi Pieri took the complete game loss, yielding nine hits and only walking two batters.
GAME 2: UNION 5, RIT 1
  • Union scored one in the first and plated three more in the third for a 4-0 lead.
