TROY, N.Y. – The RIT softball team opened Liberty League play with a pair of losses at RPI, Sunday, falling 14-3 (5 inn.) and 13-5 (5 inn.).
GAME 1 – RPI 14, RIT 3 (5 inn.)
- Junior Alexis Smith finished 2-for-3 with two RBI while first-year Kylie Aquaro went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
- RIT opened a 3-0 lead with a run in the first inning on a Smith RBI double, before plating two more runs in third on back-to-back RBI hits by Aquaro and Smith.
- RPI broke the game open with 10 runs in the fourth inning and plated four more in the bottom of the fifth to close the opener.
GAME 2 – RPI 13, RIT 5 (5 inn.)
- Aquaro and first-year Maddy Cook each went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Smith brought home two runs.
- RPI plated a run in the first before the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the third. Sophomore Elise Guth led off the third with a double to right before coming home on a single to right by Cook. Aquaro later brought Cook home with an RBI single.
- RPI took a 6-2 lead with five runs in the fourth, but RIT answered with three runs in the fifth to pull back within one, 6-5. Smith knocked a two-run single before first-year Bailey Kehl reached on an Engineer fielding error which allowed Smith to score.
- RPI put together a seven-run bottom half of the inning to complete the sweep.

RIT is schedule to take on host Keuka on Tuesday (Apr. 12) for a doubleheader slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
