DAVENPORT, FLA. - The RIT baseball team remained undefeated in Florida after taking two games against John Carroll, Tuesday, winning 10-5 in the opener and 5-3 in game two at Northeast Regional Park.
In game one, RIT Junior catcher
Kyle Poorman went 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run to lead RIT to a 10-5 victory. John Carroll went up 2-0 in the first, before the Tigers scored the next 10. The Blue Streaks added a pair of runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Game two saw senior first baseman
Ian Libby's two-run single in the fourth inning produce the winning run in a 5-3 victory. Freshman pitcher
Jack Plesniarski allowed three hits, two runs and four walks with four strikeouts in three and two-third innings for the win, while senior
Liam Barry recorded a save after allowing four hits, one run with four strikeouts in three and one-third innings in relief.
GAME 1 – RIT 10, John Carroll 5
- Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, right fielder John Bagley scored the Tigers' first run when advancing to third after senior left fielder Chris Reilly reached first on a fielder's choice and then Bagley advanced across the plate on a throwing error.
- Poorman's RBI-single scored third baseman Nate Kistler to tie the game at 2-2. Junior designated hitter Zach Mecca's walk brought Reilly in for the Tigers' first lead and then freshman second baseman Christopher Colella's two-run sac fly scored Poorman before sophomore shortstop Randy Dodig's run improved the Tigers' lead to 5-2 after the first inning.
- Bagley scored his second run of the game after Poorman reached first on a fielder's choice for a 6-2 lead after two innings. A pair of runs in the third inning improved RIT's lead to 8-2 after Libby's RBI-single scored Mecca, and then Colella scored off a wild pitch. A pair of runs in the fourth put the Tigers ahead 10-2 after Colella's RBI-double scored Dodig and then senior centerfielder Will Porter scored Mecca after grounding out.
- John Carroll scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
- Senior Reagan Farley recorded the win after allowing six hits, one walk with two strikeouts in five innings of work. Junior Peter Bossinas threw the final two innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs with three strikeouts.
GAME 2 – RIT 5, John Carroll 3
- John Carroll took a 2-0 first-inning lead.
- In the third inning, the Tigers tied the game after Porter scored when Reilly reached first on a fielder's choice and then Bagley tied the game at 2-2.
- Libby's two-run single put the Tigers ahead 4-2 in the fourth.
- Colella's sac fly in the sixth scored sophomore pinch hitter Maxx Countryman for RIT's final run.
- John Carroll added a late run in the seventh.
