ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT senior midfielder
McKenna Joint scored a career-high six goals, including the game winner with 1:29 remaining in regulation, to lead the Tigers to an 18-17 win over No. 14 Brockport, Wednesday. The Tigers outscored the Golden Eagles 8-2 in the fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied, 2-2 with 9:48 left in the first quarter, Brockport rode a 4-1 run to a 6-3 lead after the first quarter and scored 22 seconds into the second quarter for a 7-3 lead.
- Back-to-back Tiger tallies by sophomore midfielder Carrissa Hlywa and Joint made it a two-goal game, 7-5, with 11:12 on the clock, before the Golden Eagles scored twice to re-take a 9-5 edge at 8:27.Â
- Senior midfielder Colette Rigas and senior midfielder Steph Darrell tallied in a minute span to bring RIT back within two, 9-7, with 5:19 left in the half.Â
- Brockport scored 1:08 into the second half, before RIT responded with a 3-1 run, including two goals by senior attacker Aldyn Savage, to make it an 11-10 game with 8:56 on the clock.
- The Golden Eagles scored four consecutive goals to finish the third quarter with a 15-10 lead.Â
- Joint scored 37 seconds into the fourth quarter before Savage made it a 15-12 game with 12:15 remaining.
- Brockport took a 16-12 lead with 9:31 on the clock
- Joint converted a free position attempt with 5:47 remaining before Savage scored 44 seconds later. Joint then made it a one-goal game, 16-15, with 4:36 remaining.
- Brockport's Allison Jennings scored with 3:21 to play to push the Golden Eagles back to a 17-15 lead.
- Senior Colette Rigas scored off an assist from Savage with 2:21 to play before Darrell tied the game on a free position goal 17 seconds later to knot the game, 17-17.
- Joint's fourth tally of the quarter proved to be the game-winner.Â
GAME NOTES
- Junior goalie Victoria Rea earned the victory after playing the final 15 minutes of action, totaling five saves to backstop the RIT comeback.
- The Tigers out-shot Brockport, 38-37, while the Golden Eagles finished with one more shot on goal, 29-28.
- The Tigers grabbed 12 ground balls and finished 13-of-17 on clearing attempts.
- Savage tallied four goals and six points.
- Joint also logged an assist to finish with seven points, while Rigas and Darrell each scored three goals.
- Claire Odett led Brockport with six goals while Morgan Elmer made 12 saves.
