No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse wins 24-13 against Vassar in Liberty League opener

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Ryan Barnable scored his 100th career goal and junior Luke Pilcher scored a career-high seven first-half goals to lead No. 1 RIT (8-0, 1-0 Liberty League) to a 24-13 win over Vassar (5-4, 0-2 Liberty League) in the Tigers Liberty League opener, Saturday.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pilcher scored three of his seven goals in the first quarter to lead the Tigers to a 10-3 lead after the first 15 minutes.
  • Seniors Quinn Commandant, Ryan Rosenblum, Andrew Powlin, Taylor Jensen, Sean Traynor and Barnable, junior Dylan Bruno each scored for RIT in the first quarter.
  • Pilcher scored four goals in a nine-goal second quarter for RIT.
  • Rosenblum, seniors Marley Angus and Zeb Hollinger also scored in the quarter as the Tigers led 19-6 at halftime.
  • Senior Conor Bollin scored early in the third quarter, and sophomore Miles Tillman scored his first RIT goal with seven seconds remaining as RIT led 21-10.
  • Logan Hyde, Shane O'Hara, Connor Deehan and Ian Zumpano all scored for Vassar in the third quarter.
  • Seniors Adam Wolf and Andrew Doktor each scored in the fourth quarter, while freshman Lucas Brennwald scored his first collegiate goal with 5:55 remaining in regulation.
  • O'Hara, Lance Davis and Holden Anderson all scored for the Brewers in the final quarter.
 
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT fired 61 shots, including 38 on target
  • RIT converted 2-of-3 of its man-up chances, won 21-of-40 face-offs and cleared the ball 20-of-23 times.
  • 22 different Tigers scored at least one point, while 16 Tigers scored at least a goal.
  • Drew Hutchison made five saves in the first half to improve to 8-0 on the season.
  • Sophomore Nick Farrell led the Tigers with five ground balls, and senior Stephen Ketelsen caused three turnovers.
  • Zumpano and O'Hara each scored three goals to lead Vassar, while Jack Bagin made nine saves in net for the Brewers.
