Softball earns split at Oswego; falls, 2-1, wins 4-2

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The RIT softball team split a doubleheader at Oswego, Thursday, bouncing back from a 2-1 opening setback with a 4-2 victory in game-two.

GAME 2 – RIT 4, OSWEGO 2
  • Senior Haley Czerwinski went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run while senior Hannah Trumble finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run to lead the offense.
  • Trumble came around in the first inning after leading off with a single and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by first-year Kylie Aquaro. After beating a throw to third on a ball hit in the infield by first-year Maddy Cook, Trumble scored on a single to right by junior Alexis Smith.
  • Oswego responded with two runs (one unearned) in the bottom of the first and held the lead until a two-run Tiger fifth. First-year Lillian Rienstra led off with an infield single and, after advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by first-year Kristin Hino, came around on a Czerwinski double to center. Trumble followed with a triple to plate Czerwinki with what proved to be the winning run.
  • RIT plated an unearned insurance run in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
  • First-year Crystal Madore (3-4) scattered eight hits and only allowed one earned run with zero walks to earn the complete game victory.
GAME 1 – OSWEGO 2, RIT 1
  • Oswego scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second for an early lead.
  • The Tigers later tied the score in the top of the fifth after junior Jill Vorreiter led off with a double. Rienstra came in to pinch run and stole second before coming all the way around on a wild pitch with two outs.
  • The Lakers led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double and eventually brought the winning run home with a one-out RBI to earn the walk-off victory.
  • First-year Lexi Pieri (2-3) only allowed one earned run on eight hits without a walk in 6.1 innings of work to take the loss.
