No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse wins 16-15 at No. 5 St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Quinn Commandant scored the game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter to lead No. 1 RIT (7-0) to a 16-15 win over No. 5 St. John Fisher (5-1), Wednesday. Commandant scored off an assist from senior Marley Angus with 1:30 to play in regulation.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Freshman Clifford Gaston scored two of his three goals in the opening quarter to lead RIT to a 5-1 lead.
  • Gaston tied the score at 1-1 on his goal off an assist from senior Andrew Powlin at 9:26 of the quarter.
  • Senior Spencer Bell gave RIT a 2-1 lead on his goal off an assist from senior Ryan Barnable.
  • Angus scored with with 3:14 to play, and junior Luke Pilcher scored to increase RIT's lead to 4-1.
  • Gaston scored off a feed from Commandant with 12 seconds to play in the quarter to give RIT a 5-1 lead.
  • Barnable scored twice in the second quarter, giving the Tigers an 8-1 lead on his second goal of the quarter with 10:52 to play in the half.
  • Fisher's Jordan Depetres scored three straight goals, cutting the RIT lead to 8-4 on his unassisted goal with 3:07 to play in the half.
  • Gaston scored off a feed from Barnable with 1:23 remaining to give RIT a 9-4 halftime lead.
  • Commandant scored early in the third quarter to increase the RIT lead to 10-4, and senior Ryan Rosenblum gave the Tigers an 11-5 lead on his goal off an assist from Angus.
  • Nicholas Miller scored two straight goals for Fisher, cutting the RIT lead to 11-7 on his goal with 9:08 to play in the third.
  • Graduate student Jimmy Spillane scored off a feed from Angus to give the Tigers a 12-7 lead.
  • Fisher ran off six straight goals, tying the score at 12-12 on Jordan Leuze's goal with 4:37 to play in the quarter, and took a 13-12 lead on Depetres' goal with 3:29 to play.
  • Angus scored with 1:34 to play in the third to break the Fisher run, tying the score at 13-13 heading to the fourth quarter.
  • Barnable gave RIT a 14-13 lead on his goal with 13:18 to play in the fourth quarter.
  • Fisher's Jack Mulvihill tied the game at 14-14 on his goal with 11:43 to play.
  • Rosenblum gave RIT a 15-14 lead on his goal off a feed from Angus with 3:28 to play.
  • Commandant made it 16-14 on his second goal of the game with 1:30 to play.
  • Jacob Gallina scored with 1:04 to play to make it a 16-15 final.
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT fired 38 shots, including 25 on target.
  • Senior goalie Drew Hutchison made a career-high 18 saves to improve to 7-0 in net.
  • Angus led RIT with four assists and six points, while Barnable finished with three goals and five points.
  • Pilcher, Commandant and Rosenblum each scored two goals.
  • RIT cleared the ball 20-of-26 times and finished 1-for-3 on man-up.
  • Depetres led Fisher with four goals, while Ben Hammond made 10 saves in net for the Cardinals.
