No. 1 RIT Men's Lacrosse wins 14-11 at No. 20 Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior Marley Angus and junior Luke Pilcher each scored three goals to lead No. 1 RIT (4-0) to a 14-11 win at No. 20 Stevens, Thursday. The Tigers outscored the Ducks 13-7 over the final three quarters after trailing 4-1 to start the game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore defenseman Mike Grace scored RIT's lone goal as the Tigers trailed 4-1 after the first quarter.
  • Grace scored off an assist from graduate student Jimmy Spillane with 3:26 to play in the quarter.
  • Led by senior Ryan Barnable's two goals, RIT outscored the Ducks 4-0 in the second quarter to lead 5-4 at halftime.
  • Barnable scored off an assist from senior Ryan Rosenblum 48 seconds into the quarter, and tallied again with 12:26 to play to cut the Stevens lead to 4-3.
  • Junior Luke Pilcher tied the game on his goal with 5:57 to play in the half, and fed Angus with 3:26 remaining to give RIT a 5-4 lead.
  • Brendan Sullivan gave Stevens a 6-5 lead on his goal off an assist from Ryan Caplis with 9:52 to play in the third quarter.
  • The Tigers ran off three straight goals, taking an 8-6 lead on junior Spencer Bell's goal off an assist from sophomore Keegan Lochner.
  • Senior Quinn Commandant gave the Tigers a 9-7 lead with 1:52 to play in the third.
  • Stevens' Jack Savarese made it 9-8 on his goal with 32 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
  • Senior Taylor Jensen gave RIT a 10-8 lead on his goal early in the fourth quarter.
  • Jensen assisted Pilcher off the ensuing face-off, to give RIT an 11-8 lead.
  • Bell tallied his second goal off an assist from Commandant with 12:09 to play to extend the Tigers lead to 12-8.
  • Pilcher scored his second goal of the quarter off an assist from Lochner with 8:04 to play that gave the Tigers a 13-9 lead.
  • Commandant scored off a nice feed from Pilcher with 5:01 to play to give RIT a 14-10 lead.
  • Brendan Sullivan scored with 1:04 remaining to make it a 14-11 final.
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT fired 54 shots, including 28 on target.
  • RIT was 17-of-18 on clearing attempts and went 0-for-2 on man-up.
  • Commandant scored two goals and added an assist.
  • Bell and Barnable finished with two goals each.
  • Graduate student Jimmy Spillane won 20-of-29 face-offs and had 12 ground balls.
  • Senior goalie Drew Hutchison made eight saves to improve to 4-0 on the season.
  • Michael Burns, Sullivan and Caplis each tallied two goals and an assist for Stevens.
  • Jake Zeyher made 14 saves in net for the Ducks.
