Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women’s Hockey falls in OT to Mercyhurst, 3-2

ERIE, PA. – RIT junior Taylor Liotta made 55 saves and despite junior forward Jaymee Nolan's late third-period goal that forced overtime, Mercyhurst got the winner in overtime, 3-2, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period after freshman forward Athena Vasdani took a centering pass from freshman defender Kyla Bear and scored from in the front of the net. Freshman forward Kylie Aquaro started the play carrying the puck from the RIT zone to the Mercyhurst zone. Once Aquaro gained the offensive zone, she hit Bear in stride heading toward the net. Bear got a stick on the pass and the puck went to the right corner. After a backhand centering pass failed, Bear centered it on her forehand to Vasdani in the crease.
  • The Lakers tied the game at 1-1 on the power play with 5:41 left in the second period. The Tigers drew a penalty on a play where Liotta made her second breakaway save of the game that lead to the Laker power play. Chantel Ste-Croix fooled Liotta on the goal after she swept the puck toward the net from the low right corner after Liotta anticipated a pass to a Laker crashing the net.
  • Mercyhurst took a 2-1 lead with 11:25 left in the third after Sara Boucher found herself alone in front of the Tigers net. Perreault picked up a loose puck on the left boards between the blueline and the circle and after pulling away from the boards with the puck, she sent a cross-ice pass down low to Boucher, who wasted no time with a low shot through the pads.
  • RIT tied the game with 4:21 left in the third period after Nolan took a shot from near the goal line on the right side at an improbable angle to beat the Mercyhurst goaltender who was attempting to get back to the net.
  • Mercyhurst got the OT winner after Vanessa Upson's rebound of her own shot from the right circle found the back of the net with 2:17 left in the extra session.
