ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT freshman forward
Athena Vasdani's short-handed third-period tying goal stood for a 3-3 overtime final against visiting Lindenwood, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman forward Kylie Aquaro staked the Tigers to a 1-0 lead just 3:12 into the contest after stealing the puck just outside the Lindenwood blueline and entering the offensive zone on the left side. The freshman cut through the left circle before beating the Lions' goaltender through the legs.
- Lindenwood tied the game at 1-1 after knocking in a loose puck from the crease area with 14 seconds left in the first period.
- Sophomore forward Emma Roland restored the Tigers' lead at 2-1 with 8:33 left in the second. Freshman defender Kyla Bear sent the puck deep along the left wall from the blueline to senior forward Jordan Marchese behind the Lindenwood net. After a quick pass to Roland in front, the sophomore moved the puck from her backhand to her forehand before delivering a strike while falling to the ice.
- Lindenwood tied the contest at 2-2 with 1:43 left in the second after a Lion's shot from the right point was deflected off a Tiger on its way to the net.
- The Lions converted on the power play after a pass from behind the Tigers' net came out in front to Lindenwood forward Jada Burke with 9:49 left to play.
- Vasdani tied the game at 3-3 with a high backhand shot from the crease with 8:12 left in the third. Roland pushed the puck forward on a faceoff from the right circle and delivered a quick shot on net that went off the Lions' goaltender to Vasdani in the crease. Marchese forced the faceoff deep in Lindenwood's end after going from her blueline to the Lions' net with a scoring bid.
