Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women’s Hockey advances to CHA semifinals with 6-4 win over Lindenwood

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – RIT senior Abby Davies netted three goals and added an assist to lead RIT over Lindenwood, 6-4, Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, senior forward Abby Davies scored an unassisted goal to put the Tigers ahead 1-0 just 64 seconds into the middle frame. Davies went in on a partial breakaway after intercepting an outlet pass at the top of the right circle. Davies let the Lindenwood goaltender make the first move and then pulled the puck to her left and slid the shot along the ice just inside the left post.
  • The Tigers made it a 2-0 game after sophomore forward Lindsay Maloney chipped in a loose puck from the crease area with 14:40 left in the second period. Freshman forward Athena Vasdani entered the Lions zone on a 2-on-1 with sophomore forward Lindsay Maloney and as she got close to the net the Lindenwood goaltender poke-checked the puck to Maloney, who scored just 10 seconds after the Tigers had killed a penalty.
  • Lindenwood got on the board to make it a 2-1 game 11:18 into the second. The goal came from the top of the right circle after a faceoff win with a high shot to the top left corner.
  • Davies added a pair of goals early in the third period to stake the Tigers to a 4-1 lead. On RIT's fourth goal, Davies took a feed in front on a give-and-go play with freshman forward Kylie Aquaro 3:40 into the third and then scored on a short-handed partial breakaway on the backhand after being sprung by Vasdani.
  • Senior captain Jordan Marchese got the eventual game winner after her pass attempt fooled the Lindenwood goaltender for a 5-1 lead with 9:27 left in the third.
  • Lindenwood got a pair of goals in a 56-second span to cut the lead to 5-2 with the second of the two coming with 7:35 left, before Vasdani got the final Tiger goal with 3:21 to play. The Lions added a late tally with 11 seconds for the 6-4 final.
