Women's Lacrosse wins 16-15 at Nazareth

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Junior Baylee West and senior Colette Rigas each scored three goals to lead RIT (1-0) to a season-opening 16-15 win at Nazareth (0-1), Wednesday. West scored the Tigers final two goals, including the game-winner with 3:45 to play in regulation.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT scored five straight goals in the first quarter and led 5-2 after 15 minutes.
  • Sophomore Kayleigh Ground scored twice in the quarter, while seniors Myranda D'Antico, Krystyna Sterio and Steph Darrell each scored.
  • Sterio capped off a three-goal RIT run with her goal with 7:33 to play in the half to extend the RIT lead to 8-3.
  • Nazareth scored four straight goals to end the half, cutting the RIT lead to 8-7 on an Annie Rubel goal with 1:01 to play.
  • The Golden Flyers scored the first three goals of the third quarter, taking a 10-8 lead on an Emma Robinson goal.
  • Senior McKenna Joint scored her second goal of the game with 32 seconds to play in the third period to give RIT an 11-10 lead.
  • West extended the RIT lead to 13-11 on her goal early in the fourth quarter.
  • Nazareth's Emma States scored with 9:07 to play to give the Golden Flyers a 14-13 lead.
  • Freshman Ella Doan tallied her first collegiate goal with 7:06 to play, tying the score at 14-14.
  • West scored her second goal of the quarter off an assist from Darrell to give RIT a 15-14 lead, and tallied her third goal of the quarter with 3:45 to play off an assist from Darrell to extend the Tigers lead to 16-14.
  • Reva Mussi scored a late goal for Nazareth to make it a 16-15 final score.
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT held a 38-28 shot advantage.
  • The Tigers won 22-of-45 draw controls and went 12-of-21 on clearing attempts.
  • Nazareth won the ground ball battle, 23-22
  • Junior goalie Victoria Rea made three saves in the second half to earn her first collegiate win.
  • Joint led RIT with four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Sterio tallied two goals and an assist and Ground finished with two goals.
  • Rigas led RIT with eight draw controls, while senior Michael Mills grabbed eight ground balls.
  • Emma Robinson led Nazareth with three goals.
