Women's Basketball loses 54-40 at Union in Liberty League First Round

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior Sarah Henretta led No. 5 RIT (12-12) with 11 points as the Tigers lost 54-40 at No. 4 Union (13-12) in the Liberty League Quarterfinal, Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT trailed 17-11 after the first quarter, shooting 4-of-13 from the floor.
  • Union's Amber Raisner gave Union a 10-0 lead on her basket 2:44 into the first quarter.
  • Henretta scored off a nice pass from sophomore Emma Waite with 3:48 to play in the quarter that cut the Union lead to 13-8.
  • Henretta converted three free throws after time expired in the opening quarter to cut the Tigers deficit to six points.
  • Union outscored RIT 14-9 in the second quarter and led 31-20 at halftime.
  • Junior Kaleesha Joseph converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 8:28 to play in the half that cut Union lead to 19-14.
  • The Tigers managed six points the remainder of the half.
  • Henretta led RIT with seven points, while Joseph finished with five points.
  • RIT scored six points in the third quarter and trailed 43-26 going into the final 10 minutes.
  • The Tigers outscored Union 14-11 in the fourth quarter.
  • Waite scored five points in the quarter, while senior Taylor Signor chipped in three points.
 
GAME NOTES
  • This was RIT's fifth straight appearance in the Liberty League Tournament and seventh overall.
  • The Tigers won Liberty League titles in 2017 and 2019.
  • RIT shot 17-of-56 from the floor, including one three-point field goal
  • Waite and Joseph each scored nine points for the Tigers.
  • Megan Lee paced the Dutchwomen with 13 points.
  • Union will face No. 1 Ithaca in the Liberty League Semifinals on Saturday (Feb. 26).
