Pilcher scores five goals to lead No. 1 Men's Lacrosse to 19-9 win over Muhlenberg

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior attack Luke Pilcher scored five goals to lead No. 1 RIT (1-0) to a 19-9 win over Muhlenberg (0-1) in Sunday's season-opener. Senior midfielder Ryan Barnable scored three goals, while sophomore John Mozrall, senior Ryan Rosenblum and senior Zeb Hollinger each scored twice.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Barnable scored his first goal of the season with 12:51 to play in the first quarter that tied the game at 1-1.
  • Hollinger gave RIT a 2-1 lead on his first goal of the season, and Mozrall scored midway through the quarter to extended the Tigers lead to 3-1, and Pilcher tallied a man-up goal off a feed from freshman Clifford Gaston with 5:34 to play to make it 4-1, Tigers.
  • Barnable scored two straight goals early in the second quarter to extend the Tigers lead to 6-2.
  • Pilcher scored his second goal of the half with 11:38 to play that gave RIT a five-goal advantage.
  • Muhlenberg's Wyatt Malia scored at 10:48 and 10:07 of the second to cut the RIT lead to 7-4, but Hollinger, Gaston and Mozrall each scored in the latter stages of the quarter to give RIT a 10-4 halftime lead.
  • Muhlenberg's James Dalimonte cut the RIT lead to 10-5 on his goal early in the third quarter.
  • Pilcher scored two straight goals, including one off an assist from junior Dylan Bruno that gave the Tigers a 12-5 lead.
  • Graduate student Jimmy Spillane scored with 6:51 remaining in the third off an assist from Pent Eistrat to make it 13-6, and senior Marley Angus and Pilcher each scored to extend the RIT lead to eight goals.
  • Rosenblum scored twice in the fourth quarter, and sophomore defenseman Mike Grace and freshman Sam Bennett each scored their first collegiate goals.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Shots were 51-41 in favor of RIT.
  • The Tigers went 14-of-32 from the face-off "X" and 24-of-25 on clearing attempts.
  • RIT was 2-for-3 on man-up tries and won the ground ball battle, 43-33.
  • Senior goalie Drew Hutchison made 12 saves in net to earn his first win of the season.
  • Spillane won 12-of-26 draws and had four ground balls, and senior Zach Gagnon caused three turnovers and snagged four ground balls.
  • Malia scored three goals to lead Muhlenberg, while junior Max May made 23 saves in net for the Mules.
