Women’s Hockey ties at Penn State, 2-2

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – RIT freshman goaltender Sarah Coe made 43 saves in helping the Tigers to a 3-3 tie at Penn State, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Penn State took a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the opening period on a rebound after the Nittany Lion forward followed her initial wrist shot with a backhand from in close with 8:10 left in the first.
  • Senior captain Jordan Marchese tied the game at 1-1 after converting a feed from sophomore forward Emma Roland from the right side on a 2-on-1 down low with 10:54 left in the second. Roland made a nice move at the attacking blueline from the right side by pulling back the puck and evading a Penn State defender before walking in deep and feeding Marchese. The senior Tiger beat the Nittany Lion goaltender through the pads for the lone goal of the middle frame. Freshman defender Kyla Bear started the play on the left wall inside her defensive blueline with a cross-ice pass to Roalnd.
  • Freshman forward Kylie Aquaro gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead just 2:54 into the third period after her attempt to corral a feed from freshman forward Athena Vasdani went off her skate into the net. Senior forward Abby Davies started the play by intercepting a Penn State pass along the right wall between the dots and finding Vasdani in the high slot. Vasdani sent a quick pass to her lower left to an unguarded Aquaro.
  • Penn State tied the game at 2-2 with 13:47 left in the third on another rebound goal. Coe made the stop on a shot from the right point, but Penn State knocked the puck out of the air and into the net.
