Wrestling competes at Empire Conference Championships

OSWEGO, N.Y. – RIT junior Liam Strouse finished fourth at 165 lbs. as the Tigers finished eighth out of nine teams at the Empire Conference Wrestling Champions at Oswego, Saturday.

Strouse won his opening match over Oswego's Owen Highers by tech fall, but lost to Pennsylvania College of Technology's Mason Leshock in the quarterfinals on a 9-7 decision. Strouse then won three straight in the consolation bracket before losing to Leshock again in the third-place match by pin. He finished the tournament at 4-2. 

First-year Gabe Scalise finished fifth at 133 lbs., going 4-2 and winning a medical forfeit over Cortland's Cody Merwin in the fifth-place match. 

Ithaca took the overall team title with 147 points, followed by Brockport (132), Cortland (124), Oswego (111.5), and Alfred State (101.5). The Tigers finished with a score of 40.5.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3, for the RIT Invitational at Gordon Field House.
