Women’s Basketball beats Nazareth, 70-60

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior guard Emma Waite scored 19 points and notched eight assists in the Tigers' 70-60 win against Nazareth on Thursday in the opening game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout at the University of Rochester.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT took an early 5-0 lead on a layup by Waite and a three-pointer by sophomore guard Kaitlyn Bockelman, but Nazareth went on a 5-0 run of its own to tie the score.  
  • Nazareth outscored the Tigers, 13-6, to lead, 18-11, after the first quarter.
  • The Tigers opened the second quarter with a 12-4 surge, including three three-pointers by first-year guard Ansley Orrell to retake a 23-22 lead.  
  • Nazareth retied the game with a free-throw, but RIT went on a 10-2 run to end the first half with a 33-25 lead.
  • RIT kept up the pace to start the second half, outscoring the Golden Flyers, 26-14, in the third quarter to extend its lead to 59-39.
  • Nazareth opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run before senior forward Meg Roy hit a jumper to push RIT back to a 61-46 lead.
  • The Tigers maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way on their way to their first win of the season.   
GAME NOTES
  • RIT shot 46.6 from the floor on 27-of-58 shooting.
  • The Tigers were 9-of-21 behind the arc while going 7-of-9 at the foul line.
  • Nazareth out-rebounded RIT, 47-34.
  • Graduate student forward Andreja Peciuraite finished with 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench. 
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 19) against St. John Fisher in their second game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout at the University of Rochester. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
