RIT Athletics Preview: Nov. 14-Nov. 20

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (0-1)
The Tigers fell in their season opener against Geneseo, 60-58, on Wednesday. Graduate student forward Andreja Pecuiuraite and first-year guard Abigail Smith both scored 12 points in the defeat.

This week, RIT faces local rivals Nazareth and St. John Fisher in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (1-0)
RIT began the season with a win Tuesday at Alfred State, 90-79. Sophomore guard Brock Bowen scored a career-high 22 points and shot 7-of-8 from beyond the arc in the victory, while junior guard Matt Caggiano scored 17 points and led the team with six assists.

The Tigers will host Nazareth and St. John Fisher at Clark Gym on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, as part of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY (2-13-0, 0-2-0)
The Tigers dropped a pair at Union over the weekend, falling 3-2 in overtime on Friday and then 2-1 on Saturday. Sophomore defensewoman Kyla Bear and graduate student forward Amy Dobson each scored in the Friday loss, while junior forward Lindsay Maloney had the score in Saturday's defeat.

RIT hosts College Hockey America foe Lindenwood on Friday and Saturday.

WRESTLING
Sophomore Josh Harkless led the way for RIT at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday, coming in second in the 197 lb. open division. Harkless went 2-1 on the day, losing only in the finals to Division I Indiana's Nicholas Willham in a 9-4 decision. Sophomores Dara Heydarpour (165 lbs) and Nate Degroff (285 lbs.) notched third-place finishes, while first-year Gabe Scalise (133 lbs.) took home a fourth-place finish and graduate student Christopher Horton (141 lbs.) ended up with a fifth-place finish.

RIT will split up and take part in two events on Saturday: the Waynesburg Duals and the Empire Conference Championships.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The Tigers finished sixth out of 24 teams at the NCAA Division III Niagara Region Championships on Saturday. Senior Hassan Eissa finished an all-region ninth place to earn an at-large bid to this Saturday's NCAA Division III Championship race

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING (5-0)
RIT travels to Ithaca on Saturday for a Liberty League dual meet with the Bombers. It's the first event for the Tigers since they defeated Division II Gannon at Judson Pool on Nov. 5, 172-18.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING (5-0)
Two weeks after a 154-146 win over Division II Gannon, the Tigers head to Ithaca for a dual meet with the Bombers.

MEN'S HOCKEY (10-2-0, 9-1-0)
The Tigers notched two 3-1 victories over Sacred Heart on Friday and Saturday for an Atlantic Hockey sweep. Sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone made a season-high 37 saves in Friday's win, while sophomore forward Carter Wilkie had a goal and an assist. Senior defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro scored two goals in Saturday's win while Wilkie scored a goal and two assists.

With the wins, RIT now holds sole possession of the top spot in the conference standings. They are also off to their winningest start of the Division I era.

RIT will host an exhibition game against the USA National U-18 Team on Saturday.
