Men's Hockey shoots past Holy Cross, 5-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro notched two goals and an assist in the Tigers' 5-2 Atlantic Hockey victory over visiting Holy Cross, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT jumped out to a 2-0 lead just over two minutes into the game. Cassaro took a feed at the top of the zone and skated through the left face-off circle into the slot to backhand a shot inside the right post 52 seconds into the game.
  • A minute and twenty seconds later, sophomore forward Grady Hobbs sent a pass to Cassaro in the right face-off circle and one-timed a return pass in the low slot that deflected off a stick in front and through Holy Cross goaltender Thomas Gale's pads for the first of three Tiger power-play goals on the night.
  • Junior forward Cody Laskosky intercepted a clearing pass on the left boards in the Crusader zone and send a puck to first-year forward Philippe Jacques in the left slot. Jacques slid the puck to first-year forward Tyler Mahan, who was open for a short tip inside the right post with 13:04 left in the second period.
  • Holy Cross got on the board with 10:28 left in the second period after Matt Guerra skated down the left wing and cut into the top of the slot to score on shot through traffic in front of RIT sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone.
  • The Crusaders scored again five minutes later after Liam McLinsky notched a power-play goal with a shot from the top of the slot to make it a one-goal game, 3-2, into the third period.
  • RIT put the game away with a pair of power-play tallies down the stretch. Junior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata slid a pass from the top of the slot to Cassaro, who scored on a one-timer from the right face-off circle with 6:07 left in regulation. Just over two minutes later, Hansen-Bukata took a slap shot from the point that deflected through a crowd in front of the Crusader crease where grad student forward Kobe Walker flipped a loose puck inside the right post to close the scoring.
