Women's Hockey loses at Syracuse in CHA opener

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The RIT women's hockey team lost 1-0 at Syracuse in the Tigers CHA opener, Thursday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Syracuse's Lauren Bellafontaine gave the Orange a 1-0 lead on her goal at 4:53 of the first period off an assist from Terryn Mozes.
  • Graduate student forward Amy Dobson had a chance at 18:19 of the first when she skated to the net forcing Syracuse goalie Arielle DeSmet to make the save.
  • Senior forward Hana Solinger had a shot from the slot saved by DeSmet at 8:26 of the second period, while first-year forward Lexi Sung had her wrist shot from the face-off dot saved at 15:57.
  • Coe made six saves in the second, including one on Sarah Marchand who broke in on net late in the stanza.
  • Sophomore forward Megan McCormick had a short-handed chance at 9:09 of the third period saved by DeSmet.
  • Junior forward Chloe McNeil had two chances from in front at 12:48 saved, while junior forward Emma Roland had a chance at 13:55 after the puck caromed off the boards to her in the slot.
GAME NOTES
  • Syracuse outshot RIT 27-25.
  • The Tigers won 19 face-offs, and were 0-for-4 on the power play.
  • Sophomore goalie Sarah Coe made 26 saves.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 29) against Syracuse at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers will celebrate the 10th anniversary of winning the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championship prior to the game.
