Women's Hockey travels to No. 6 Colgate

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT women's hockey team travels to No. 6 Colgate for a pair of non-conference games this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
RIT swept Saint Michael's, 8-0 on Friday, and 9-0 on Saturday at the Gene Polisseni Center, last weekend. 
 
Junior forward Lindsay Maloney scored a career-high two goals in Friday's win. Sophomore forward Athena Vasdani and first-year forward Lexi Sung had two assists, apiece. First-year forward Ella Fesette, first-year defensewoman Karly Kolssak and sophomore blue-liner Jessie Burks each recorded their first collegiate points. Sophomore goalie Sarah Coe made seven saves in net to earn her first shut out of the season and fourth of her career.
 
Sophomore forward Kylie Aquaro recorded a career-high five points and four assists in Saturday's victory over the Purple Knights. Senior forward Jaymee Nolan tied her career-high with two goals and Vasdani tied her career-best with three points on a goal and two assists. In all, 13 Tigers recorded at least one point in the win. Junior goalie Emma Stephen made eight saves to earn first win in a Tiger sweater.

CHA WEEKLY HONOREES
Aquaro was named CHA Player of the Week after tallying five assists and six points last week, while Fesette tallied a goal and two assists to earn Rookie of the Week accolades. Coe (Sept. 26) and junior forward Chloe McNeil (Oct. 3) were CHA weekly honorable mention selections.
 
FIRST TIME SCORERS
Kolssak, Fesette and Burks each scored their first collegiate points last weekend. Sung recorded an assist in a loss at Vermont for her first collegiate point, while sophomore defensewoman Addie Carr tallied an assist at UConn (Sept. 29) for her first career point.
 
BRING OUT THE BROOMS
RIT's sweep of Saint Michael's was the first for the Tigers since a sweep of Penn State on Feb.
14-15, 2020.

HOLY SHOTS

RIT's 57 shots in Friday's win is the most for the Tigers since RIT fired 63 shots in an 8-0 win at
Sacred Heart in 2013.

Six of the Tigers first eight games are against opponents ranked in the DCU/USCHO Division I Women's poll. RIT began the season with a pair of games at No. 15 UConn followed by a two-game series at No. 14 Vermont. The Tigers host Saint Michael's for a weekend series (oct. 7-8) before hitting the road to play at No. 6 Colgate October 14-15. CHA rival Penn State is ranked 11th in this week's poll.
 
ABOUT RIT
RIT enters the weekend first in the CHA averaging 3.83 goals per game and second defensively, allowing 2.67 goals per contest. The Tigers lead the league winning 55.6 percent of their faceoffs and two short-handed goals. RIT is tops in the CHA converting 5-of-14 power play chances, and leads the league with 36.33 shots on goal per game. The Tigers have the fewest penalties minutes (26) in the CHA.
 
Aquaro leads the team and the CHA with eight points, averaging 1.33 points per game. She is first in the league with seven assists, averaging 1.7 per contest. Vasdani is second on the team and the CHA with six points, and is tied for second in the league with four assists, averaging 0.67 per game. Nolan, Maloney and graduate student forward Amy Dobson are tied for third on the team with five points apiece. Nolan leads the league with four goals, including a league-best two power-play goals. Dobson leads the league averaging 4.17 shots per game and is tied for fifth in the CHA with three assists. Maloney is tied for third in the league in assists, second and is tied for first with a short-handed goal.
 
Coe enters the weekend second in the CHA averaging 22.00 saves per game and is fourth with a 2.83 goals against average and sixth with a .889 save percentage.
 
ABOUT COLGATE
Colgate swept a weekend series against No. 11 Penn State, 3-2 and 2-1, last weekend. Junior forward Kristýna Kaltounková scored two goals including the game-tying goal, Friday. Senior forward Danielle Serdachny scored the game-winner with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Junior goalie Kayle Osborne made 19 saves to earn the win. Kaltounková and first-year forward Elyssa Biederman each scored in Saturday's win. Biederman scored the game-winner with one minute remaining in regulation, and sophomore goalie Hannah Murphy made 16 saves in net for the Raiders.
 
Colgate enters the weekend averaging 3.0 goals per game, while allowing 0.6 goals per contest. The Raiders are 6-of-24 on the power play and average 35.6 shots per game.
 
Kaltounková leads Colgate and is tied for second in the ECAC with eight points. She is tied for first in the league with five goals and is first averaging 1.0 goals per game. Serdachny is second on the team with six points and three goals, and senor defensewoman Sydney Bard, senior defensewoman Tanner Gates, senior forward Kaitlyn O'Donohoe and senior defensewoman Allyson Simpson are tied for third on the team with four points.
 
Osborne has three wins in net with a 0.67 goals against average and a .962 save percentage. Murphy has two wins and a 0.50 GAA and a .967 save percentage.
 
RIT VS. SAINT MICHAEL'S
RIT is 14-12-2 all-time versus Colgate. The Raiders swept a pair of games last season. The Tigers' last win was a 2-0 victory in 2013.
