Women’s Hockey falls in third to Syracuse, 5-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's hockey team entered the third period tied with visiting Syracuse in College Hockey America action after sophomore defender Bailey Kehl's goal, but the Orange responded with a three-goal third period to take the contest, 5-2, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Syracuse got on the board first after a three-way passing play took the puck from the left post to the opposite post for an easy redirect goal 7:39 into the opening period.
  • Sophomore forward Emma Roland stole the puck deep in the Syracuse end and delivered a strike with a wrist shot from the right side of the ice to knot the score at 1-1 with 6:27 left in the first.
  • Syracuse regained its one-goal lead 7:55 into the second period after a shot from just inside the center blueline caught the bottom left post for a 2-1 Orange advantage.
  • Kehl needed less than a minute after Syracuse took the lead with a knuckleball shot from the right point that caught the top left post and crossbar for a 2-2 game with 11:12 to go in the middle frame.
  • Syracuse got the eventual game-winning goal 4:20 into the third period after junior forward Anna Leschyshyn advanced the puck from the left blueline to the front of the net unopposed and unleashed a wrist shot to the top right corner for a 3-2 Orange lead.
  • Senior forward Abby Moloughney gave Syracuse a 4-2 lead 4:41 later after walking out of the right corner behind the net and firing a high wrist shot to the glove side. The Orange would add an empty-net goal in the final seconds to complete the game's scoring.
