ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's hockey team lost to visiting Penn State in College Hockey America action, 5-0, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn State took a 2-0 lead after the opening period of play. Nittany Lions' leading scorer Natalie Heising gathered a loose puck from inside the blueline and scored with a wrist shot from the right side after sophomore forward Alyssa Machado stick-checked a RIT clearing attempt, 6:07 into the period. Sophomore forward Kiara Zanon made it 2-0 with a short-handed backhand breakaway goal at 17:24 after corralling a deflected Tiger centering pass.
- The Nittany Lions added a pair in the second period. Heising got her second of the game 12:28 into the period and freshman forward Mya Vaslet made it a 4-0 game at 16:21.
- Penn State converted a 2-on-0 for the game's final goal with senior forward Anna Promersberger converting a pass from sophomore forward Olivia Wallin with 5:01 left in the third.
GAME NOTES
- RIT starting junior goaltender Taylor Liotta finished with 14 saves in allowing three goals.
- Freshman goaltender Sarah Coe made 12 saves in relief, playing 27:32.
- Senior forward Abby Davies had a team-best three shots on goal.
- Senior defender Taylor Sims finished with a team-high three blocks.
- Sophomore forward Lindsay Maloney won 9-of-16 faceoffs.
