GENEVA, N.Y. -- The RIT women's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championships this past weekend on the HWS Tennis Center courts of William Smith College, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 18-19).
Freshman
Gabby Donohue (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley), sophomore
Jackie Drozd (Richboro, PA/The Hun School), and senior
Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) competed in the main singles draw with all three falling. Donohue lost to New York University's Jimena Menendez, 6-1, 6-0. Drozd was edged by NYU's Karina Jensrud, 6-4, 6-4. Auble was defeated by the College of New Jersey's Charlotte Roarty, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, Donohue and Drozd fell to Hamilton's Hannah Apsey and Lauren Holtzman, 8-0.
In consolation and exhibition matches, Auble beat New Jersy City's Mila Gligorov, 8-7 (9-7). Junior
Mackenzie Wade (Tyler, TX/Ouachita Baptist) dropped to New Jersey City's Giada Zorzan, 8-2. Drozd fell to Union's Sophie Brown, 8-4, and to TCNJ's Chloe Hansen, 8-1.
Sixty-four of the region's best singles players and 32 of the top doubles teams, representing 16 institutions participated in the annual championship. While there was not an official consolation draw, players were given an opportunity to play additional matches against other players in the tournament field.

The women's tennis team wraps up the fall portion of its 2021-22 season this weekend, Sept. 25-26, at the St. Lawrence Invitational in Canton.
