ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team split a Liberty League doubleheader with visiting Clarkson, Saturday, following up a 10-5 setback in the opener with a 16-6 game-two victory.
GAME 2: RIT 16, Clarkson 6
- Kyle Watson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) finished 3-for-5 with a homerun, three runs scored and four RBI while Will Porter (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) went 2-for-5 with a homerun, two runs scored and three RBI to lead a 20-hit attack by the Tigers.
- RIT jumped out to a 7-0 first-inning lead, started by a two-run double by Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic) and an RBI single by Nic Stagnitta (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia). Watson followed with a three-run homerun over the left field fence before Porter went back-to-back with a shot over the right field fence to cap the early rally.
- Clarkson answered with three runs in the top of the second, including a solo homerun by Robert Whalen and a two-run double by Colby Brouillette.
- RIT plated a run in the bottom of the second on a Stagnitta RBI single, before Clarkson scored twice in the third to make it an 8-5 game.
- The Tigers scored twice in the fourth on a two-run throwing error by the Golden Knights, before breaking the game open with six runs on seven hits in the fifth to build a 16-5 lead. Porter knocked a two-run hit, while Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) registered two hits in the inning, including an RBI double to cap the outburst.
- Liam Barry (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) earned the relief victory on the mound, throwing a hitless four innings while striking out five and only walking one batter.
GAME 1: Clarkson 10, RIT 5
- Blackall finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI while Libby went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
- Clarkson plated a run in the second for the early lead, but RIT plated four runs in the third on three consecutive RBI hits by Blackall, Libby and Chris Reilly (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) and an RBI double by Kistler to take a 4-1 lead.
- The Golden Knights scored five in the sixth and four more in the seventh to take a 10-4 lead.
- Blackall notched an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh for the game's final run.
