ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Rochester, Friday afternoon, falling, 4-2, in the opener and, 14-9, in game two.
GAME 1 – Rochester 4, RIT 2
Junior outfielder Christ Reilly finished 2-for-3 with a run scored while sophomore
Nate Kistler (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Freshman center fielder
John Bagley (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) was 2-for-3 as the Tigers compiled six hits.
Junior
Jack Leahey (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) took the loss for RIT, allowing four runs in five innings of work. Trevor Povlovk came in and pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Tigers.
Rochester scored a run in the top of the first inning, but RIT responded with two in the bottom of the inning on a two-run infield hit by Kistler.
Rochester re-took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning and tacked on another in the top of the fifth inning.
GAME 2 – RIT, Rochester
Junior third base
Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) went 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Reilly went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Kistler was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.
Senior pitcher
Collin Reformat (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) allowed five runs on five hits in five innings. Junior
Jon Opalewski (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) took the loss, allowing nine runs, including seven earned on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
RIT scored a run in the first inning on a RBI from Reilly, plating
Randy Dodig (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties).
Luke McNamara (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) doubled in the second and Dodig singled to left field as RIT took a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Rochester scored five runs in the third inning, including a three-run home run from Harper Sy. The Yellowjackets tacked on a run in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 9-4 lead.
RIT got two runs back in the seventh, and tied the score, 9-9, with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, including an RBI double by Kistler.
Rochester scored five times in the top of the ninth to earn the win.
