ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Rochester, Saturday, losing the opener, 9-8, before falling, 13-6 in game two.
GAME 1 – Rochester 9, RIT 8
Graduate student
Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) and sophomore
Nate Kistler (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) each finished 2-for-3 with two RBI while junior
Chris Reilly (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) was 2-for-2 with a run scored an a RBI.
Capra also took the loss, allowing nine runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.
RIT scored two runs in the second inning, including a Kistler single to left which scored Reilly. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead on a RBI by
Kyle Watson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), driving in
Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic).
The Tigers scored three more runs in the third inning on RBI singles from Capra, Kistler and Reilly to extend their lead to 5-0. In the sixth, Capra was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, driving in junior
Will Porter (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit), before a Reilly single plated Watson to push the lead to 7-0.
Rochester made it a one-run game with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, but RIT took an 8-6 lead on a
John Bagley (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) sacrifice fly in the seventh.
The Yellowjackets responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the victory.
GAME 2 – Rochester 13, RIT 6
Kistler went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Reilly went 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Bagley was 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI. Freshman
John Arnold (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) took the loss for RIT, allowing four earned runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings.
RIT took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on RBI hits from Randy Dodg and Bagley.
Rochester answered with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to open a 4-2 lead. Junior
Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) homered in the fifth to cut the Rochester lead to 4-3, but the Yellowjackets came back with five runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to open a decisive 13-4 lead.
