Game Recap: Softball |

Softball swept by visiting Clarkson, 6-2, 10-6,

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader opposite visiting Clarkson in Liberty League action, Monday. The Golden Knights pulled away for a 6-2 victory in the opener before breaking a 6-6 tie in the seventh inning to earn a 10-6 win.

GAME 1 – Clarkson 6, RIT 2
Junior first baseman Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but Clarkson broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fifth and five more in the sixth to earn the victory.

RIT scored twice in the sixth. Senior designated player Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) led off the sixth with a single to left and eventually came around on a single by sophomore left fielder Natalie Barrera (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial), before Bilich later brought home senior second baseman Julia Vaillancourt (Braintree, MA/Braintree) with a single to left.

GAME 2 – Clarkson 10, RIT 6
Clarkson plated three runs in the first inning, but RIT responded with three of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Junior center fielder Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) led off with a double and eventually came around on a two-run single by Bilich. Junior catcher Jill Vorreiter (Fisherville, KY/Mercy Academy of Louisville) later doubled home Bilich to tie the game.

The Golden Knights scored two in the second and another in the third for a 6-3 lead. The Tigers got one back in the second after sophomore left fielder Natalie Barrera (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial) came home from second after a throwing error by the Clarkson first baseman following a Bilich ground-out.

RIT scored one in the fourth to make it a one-run game, 6-5. Junior shortstop Jennifer Vickery (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) drew a lead-off walk and advanced to second after the Clarkson shortstop threw the ball away trying to double her off first on a line out by freshman designated player Elise Guth (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion). Vickery advanced to third after senior right fielder Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) reached on another Golden Knight throwing error and came home on a ground-out by Trumble.

RIT tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Carroll reached with a two-out single to center and, following a walk to Trumble, advanced to third on a wild pitch. Carroll scored on a misplayed ball by the Clarkson first baseman on a ball hit by Vaillancourt.

The Golden Knights put the game away in the seventh, loading the bases and eventually bringing around four runs to complete the sweep.
