ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader opposite visiting Clarkson in Liberty League action, Monday. The Golden Knights pulled away for a 6-2 victory in the opener before breaking a 6-6 tie in the seventh inning to earn a 10-6 win.
GAME 1 – Clarkson 6, RIT 2
Junior first baseman
Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but Clarkson broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fifth and five more in the sixth to earn the victory.
RIT scored twice in the sixth. Senior designated player
Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) led off the sixth with a single to left and eventually came around on a single by sophomore left fielder
Natalie Barrera (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial), before Bilich later brought home senior second baseman
Julia Vaillancourt (Braintree, MA/Braintree) with a single to left.
GAME 2 – Clarkson 10, RIT 6
Clarkson plated three runs in the first inning, but RIT responded with three of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Junior center fielder
Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) led off with a double and eventually came around on a two-run single by Bilich. Junior catcher
Jill Vorreiter (Fisherville, KY/Mercy Academy of Louisville) later doubled home Bilich to tie the game.
The Golden Knights scored two in the second and another in the third for a 6-3 lead. The Tigers got one back in the second after sophomore left fielder
Natalie Barrera (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial) came home from second after a throwing error by the Clarkson first baseman following a Bilich ground-out.
RIT scored one in the fourth to make it a one-run game, 6-5. Junior shortstop
Jennifer Vickery (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) drew a lead-off walk and advanced to second after the Clarkson shortstop threw the ball away trying to double her off first on a line out by freshman designated player
Elise Guth (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion). Vickery advanced to third after senior right fielder
Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) reached on another Golden Knight throwing error and came home on a ground-out by Trumble.
RIT tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Carroll reached with a two-out single to center and, following a walk to Trumble, advanced to third on a wild pitch. Carroll scored on a misplayed ball by the Clarkson first baseman on a ball hit by Vaillancourt.
The Golden Knights put the game away in the seventh, loading the bases and eventually bringing around four runs to complete the sweep.

RIT will travel to Clarkson tomorrow for a road doubleheader with the Golden Knights slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
