Softball drops pair to visiting Ithaca, 6-0, 6-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team lost twice to visiting Ithaca, Wednesday, 6-0 and 6-2, in Liberty League play.
 
GAME 1 – Ithaca 6, RIT 0
  • Ithaca pitcher Beth Fleming threw a complete-game, two-hitter, holding the Tigers without a hit until the seventh inning. Raquel Estrada (Middletown, NY/Middletown) knocked a base hit to right field to break up the no-hitter before Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) singled to left two batters later.
  •  Melissa Gould (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) took the loss for RIT, only allowing one earned run while striking out seven in 5.1 innings of work. 
GAME 2 – Ithaca 6, RIT 2
  • Ithaca scored three runs in the second inning, including RBI hits by Kailey Collins and Allison Dell'Orto.
  • RIT responded with two runs in the bottom of the second. Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) led off with a single to left before Julia Vaillancourt (Braintree, MA/Braintree) walked and Jennifer Vickery (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) legged out an infield base hit to load the bases. Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) followed with a two-run single through the right side to plate Vaillancourt and Smith.
  • Ithaca took a 5-2 lead in the third on a two-run homerun by Julia Loffredo.
  • The Bombers plated one more run in the fifth on an RBI ground-out by Collins.
  • Gould took the loss for RIT, allowing nine hits and five earned runs.
