ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team split a Liberty League doubleheader with visiting St. Lawrence, Saturday, winning the opener, 6-3, before falling, 10-4, in game-two.
GAME 1 – RIT 6, St. Lawrence 3
- Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI to lead a 13-hit Tiger attack.
- RIT opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Julia Vaillancourt (Braintree, MA/Braintree)
- The Tigers built a 4-0 lead with three unearned runs in the third inning, including an RBI double by Billich.
- St. Lawrence got on the board with a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Tori Rotundo.
- RIT responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Natalie Barrera (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial) to build a 5-1 lead.
- The Saints made it a 5-3 game with two runs in the fifth, including an RBI triple by Meredith Rose.
- Katelyn Koester (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) brought home a run in the fifth with an infield single to push RIT's lead back to three and put the game out of reach.
- Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) earned the victory in the circle, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out six in five innings of work.
- Melissa Gould (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) threw two innings of scoreless relief, including three strikeouts, to earn a save.
GAME 2 – St. Lawrence 10, RIT 4
- Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Vaillancourt ended up 3-for-4 with two runs scored, but St. Lawrence broke the game open with back-to-back four-run innings in the fourth and the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
- RIT took a 2-0 lead on a first-inning RBI double by Natalie Barrera (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial) and a RBI double by Bilich in the second.
- The Saints scored four runs on five hits in the fourth, including a two-run double by Carolyn Holran, and added another four runs on five hits in the fifth, including back-to-back RBI singles by Zolan Braswell and Holran which pushed the visitors to a decisive six-run cushion.
