Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball falls twice at St. Lawrence, 7-6, 7-5

CANTON, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team fell twice in a Liberty League doubleheader at St. Lawrence, Saturday, coming up short, 7-6 and 7-5.

GAME 1 – St. Lawrence 7, RIT 6
  • St. Lawrence plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off with a 7-6 comeback victory.
  • Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored three runs to pace the Tiger offense.
  • St. Lawrence built a 3-0 first-inning lead thanks in part to a pair of Tiger throwing errors.
  • RIT got one back in the third after Capra came home on a Saints throwing error after a ground out by Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic).
  • The Tigers forged a 5-3 lead with four runs in the fourth inning. Kyle Watson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Brooks Vertoske (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) led off with back-to-back singles before a sacrifice bunt by Will Porter (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) forced Vertoske at second but advanced Watson to third. Randy Dodig (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) walked to load the bases before runs came home after Capra was hit by a pitch and Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Chris Reilly (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) re-loaded the bases on an infield hit before Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic) walked and Nate Kistler (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) was hit by a pitch to bring home two more runs.
  • Capra led off the sixth with a double down the left field line and eventually came around on a St. Lawrence error to push RIT to a 6-3 lead.
  • The Saints made it a two-run game with a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Andrew Circelli.
  • St. Lawrence scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, including a walk-off, two-run single by Jimmy Libertore with bases loaded to seal the win.
GAME 2 – St. Lawrence 7, RIT 5
  • Luke McNamara (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) went 2-for-2 with a homerun and two runs scored for the Tigers while Capra knocked a three-run home run in the game-two setback.
  • St. Lawrence took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first on an RBI triple by Circelli.
  • Circelli pushed the Saints to a 3-0 lead with a two-run homerun in the third.
  • McNamara led off the fourth hitting a ball over the left field fence to put the Tigers on the board.
  • RIT got another run back in the seventh, started by a lead-off walk by McNamara and back-to-back singles by John Bagley (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Will Porter (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit). Dodig followed by hitting a high chopper that was misplayed by the St. Lawrence first baseman, bringing McNamara across to make it a 3-2 game.
  • The Saints took a 6-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run homerun by Nicholas Butler and tacked on another run in the seventh for a 7-2 lead.
  •  RIT made it a two-run game on Capra's homerun over the right field fence with two outs in the seventh.
